piggy bedspread - Guinea Pig Cages

One of the new piggy bedspreads I got to replace bedding on the lower level. Piggies love to lounge and popcorn all over. Biggest advantage: save the $ of bedding. Also, when the piggies got running laps, bedding would fly out everywhere. Now - no more sweeping.

One thing I've noticed now since I've started using fleece is that the girls do the vast majority of their poo business upstairs in the hayloft. The upper level has Sunseed bedding in it and that's also where their hayrack is located. They can make all the hay mess they want and it's a quick task to change it out weekly. They have a few poos on the fleece, but nothing compared to the upper level. I have a dustbuster type vacuum thing that I run over the fleece daily and when I switch out the fleece weekly, I use one of those Pledge Fabric Sweepers for Pet Hair before tossing it into the washer. Am very pleased!

I love the pretty colours. I have a question: What do you do to clean the fleece?
I would love to do fleece but do not have enough information. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

The two fleeces I have I bought from Piggybedspreads.com. I love them! I paid the extra to have bedspreads made versus just fleece. I didn't want the hassle of getting my own underlayments. I also purchased 2 bedspreads at the same time so I wouldn't have to wait for a clean one when I do the weekly clean. Daily, I vacuum and/or sweep the fleece to pick up poos, pellets and veggie matter. Weekly, I'll vacuum and sweep again before taking the entire bedspread out and replacing it with the other one. I then take the spread outside and shake it. Alot of the hair will come off this way. I then take one of those Pledge Fabric Sweepers For Pet Hair and go over the entire thing to get as much extra hair off as I can. After another good shake, the spread goes into the washing machine, usually with their cuddle, using regular detergent and no fabric softener. A good turn in the dryer - about 50 mins to ensure all the underlayment inside is dry - and the spread is ready for the next weekly clean. The cost I outlayed for the spreads would be what I would have spent in paper bedding/Everfresh in a 5-week period so I considered it to be a great cost saver for me. Now, a super-size bag of bedding will last for 2 weeks as I only use it in the upper level where their hayrack is located. Before, I would go through 1 supersize bag and 1 smaller one every week. I highly recommend fleece and the spreads!

I do the same thig i shake the bedding behind the fence ( there is none behind us just trees) then put it in the washer we do have to run it another time with bleach only and nothing else but that is probley because i dont use the fabric sweeper wich is actually a really good idea.
