A better lid design? Pic 2 of 3 - Guinea Pig Cages

I put the bent over edges of the shelving at the center of the lid. If you do it this way, it's not as pretty, BUT it stays propped open all by itself! The front section rests on that bent over edge, and it leans a little backwards, so it doesn't want to slam shut.
