I have planted a garden for me and the pigs.
As a diabetic I decided to plant a couple of stevia plants to use as a natural sweetener in beverages.

I am wondering if stevia leaves are ok for guinea pigs as an occasional treat (like 1-2 x a month).

The only real info I found on the web was here:

Tropical Plant Database entry for: Stevia rebaudiana, Stevia rebaudiana

It says that in lab studies it is not toxic to guinea pigs, but that doesn't tell me if it is ok for them to eat.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I can tell you they aren't toxic to Fire Ants either....

They took over all my plants when I lived in Florida.

I also looked and didn't see anything bad about stevia but if it came to giving them a piece of melon over the stevia, I'd give the melon. I have been using Stevia for years and love it.
