I have a Guinea pig that has just given birth and is about to stop nursing in a week or so.They are caged together. I've been giving the baby and mom alfalfa hay for calcium. I know adult Guinea pigs cant eat alfalfa hay unless they are pregnant or nursing, so my question is can I still add alfalfa hay to my Guinea pigs diet for the baby. Or can i substitute the hay for high calcium foods like dill and just give it to the baby. I dont want the mom to develop stones but I need the baby to still have calcium in her diet.

If she's just given birth, she'll likely nurse the baby for almost four weeks. However, if the pup is male, he'll have to be separated at three weeks.

I'd switch them all to timothy hay when the pup is three weeks old and just give parsley for extra calcium.
