It is about time that I joined this site!
It's 10:13Pm and I'm exhausted, long day of piggies outside. I also own a horse!;)
Exams killed me this week also. Oh, you can also call me Kayla or whatever nickname you want to come up with!
I own two pigs, both females and like to complain when they run out of lettuce!

Here is my pigs!
Molly- White and brown
Jewels- Black and brown

Welcome! I just joined today just as you did. Joined because 70% of the time, search results for my guinea pig and cage question comes up, this place pops up so :D

Welcome to the forum! Molly looks like as abbsyinian, Jewels looks like an American shorthair. Both gorgeous girls!

Welcome! They are both beautiful but I have a fondness for Jewels' coloring.

@Guineapigpro that is probably the best pigture I have ever seen! How did you manage to get that photo?!

Actually, with that mohawk of hair down her back, Molly is a ridgeback.
But Molly has Roselettes. Hopefully this photo will be more clear to see.

also, what's a ridgeback? Never heard if the breed

Rosettes might be standard for abyssinans but a Ridgeback has that line of fur that stands up and runs from head to rump. Something that an Abyssinian does not have.

adorable piggies :)

Oh lol! Well, apparently you are a photo contest winner...
Very true. ;) I got lucky on that picture! My contest pic wasn't from the internet, though! lol

My understanding was that abyssinians sometimes have rosettes that formed a ridge on their back, and they were called ridgebacks.

Yes, ridgebacks are fairly rare. If she does have rosettes ( it was hard to see in the pic), she could be an abyssinian/ridgeback cross. And you are right, it's rare to find them in petstores. I guess it depends on what breeds the breeding mill has.

she does not have many rosettes as a Abyssinian has. She's only got 2 that really stand out. Here is a better photo

This is what I got about ridgebacks- they can actually have rosettes.

Ridgeback
The Ridgeback is a rare breed with a smooth short coat, with a lengthwise ridge of standing hair on its back. The ridge should ideally be long, regular, straight and stand rigidly up without much trimming without breaking down at any point. It should run from the neck to the rump. Ridgeback cavies as well as non-ridged carriers of the genetic ridgeback factor both have so called tufty feet, with the hair on the hind feet growing "the wrong way", upwards on the leg. Ridgeback cavies sometimes have rosettes on the body, which is considered a fault.

Okay well there you go! :) A ridgeback it is!
