Worldwide Empty the Tanks Protest!

I watched Blackfish and was angered to a high degree. I will not be going but I support it! Free Tilikum and all the other little whales!

Sadly there aren't any even sort of close to me :(
I liked the page though. I do not support Sea World at all after watching Black Fish.

I can't. :( There is one close to me, but the date is close to my mother and father's birthday (in the same month) and I cant make it, but I support it 100%!

Very good documentary.

Sadly :( I can't, there are none around me except for the Baltimore aquarium. But they definitely don't exploit their marine mammals (I don't think). I've never been to sea world or other marine parks, I've never even been to Disney world for that matter.

I'm so conflicted over this issue. Obviously whales shouldn't be kept in captivity as clowns, but how will these whales survive in the wild when they are used to being handed food?

I kinda feel like they should keep the whales they currently have, but not be able to bring any more whales into captivity.
When they released Keiko he had no clue what to do or where to go and just hung out in a harbor following the boat around that cared for it.
=/

And at least in aquariums they are protected from whalers.

@Starthecavy123 yes but chances are they can find a group (whatever they call it) of whales to release them to. If they Can track whales to capture them they can certainly track them to release a whale. And i would rather them live a year in the wild after being released over than living 10 more years in captivity.

Yea I would to especially if they are being treated badly. But releasing an animal that has never been on its own in the wild is cruel.

@Starthecavy123 Yes but like i said they should release them with wild whales and they can learn from the wild whales. At Sea world they are kept in pools the size equivalent to jail cells. If Sea world did not capture animals Don (i think it was her name) would be with her family and tilly would be with hers. I mean wouldnt you go crazy being kept in a tank so smal

@pineapplepigs , like i said though, they released Keiko and he just returned to a fjord and stayed there until he died at only 27 years old. He didn't stand a chance.

I just find Blackfish hilarious...I mean it's called blackfish...it's about mammals....can't take anything titled so incorrectly seriously. Plus, it's a scare tactic film, it equates to propaganda, taking a biased point of view rather than an objective, which is the point of view needed to make a difference.

Either way, I firmly believe that if you're against sea parks such as sea world, but don't take the same stance on zoos, you're a hypocrite. Both of them are environments that contain animals in areas much smaller than their natural habitat. If you released a born in captivity tiger in to it's natural habitat, that tiger is screwed. Same goes for whales, if they're born in captivity, they can't survive in the wild. They don't know how to hunt, they've never experienced a live kill. Don't capture any more, but don't condemn the captive whales to a lonely life that might result in them being killed by a great white.

@Princess_Piggie I am against Sea World and I did not join this forum to be called a hypocrite. Like I said I would rather a whale live a year in the wild than 10 years in captivity doing tricks (same for zoo animals minus the tricks). I do find the title for blackfish title funny too.

I think if they slowly introduce the whales and animals slowly to the ocean or wild they will have a better chance of survival. And when did I ever say I was not against zoos? One of my last reasons I would want Sea World to release them before death is they give their whales HUMAN anti-anxiety pills to make sure they don't go any crazier than they already are from captivity.

I wasn't specifically calling you a hypocrite, I didn't direct the post at you in any way. You didn't mention your stance on zoos, so how could I direct a statement about zoos at you? It was a general statement, mainly aimed at all the people who only became aware of captivity issues after blackfish was released. Y'know, the ones who buy in to propaganda about anything and never bother to do their own research, or form their own opinions sorta thing? Sorry if it came off like that though.

There are definitely ways of doing that, but I don't see Sea World or anyone putting the effort in personally. I mean, I remember watching a documentary about a rhino (my favourite animal haha) being reintroduced to the wild, and it went brilliantly, purely because the owners made the effort. It was a 'family pet', the owners had a rhino conservation park, mother was killed by poachers, baby was taken to the family home to be reared, but then, when it reached a certain age, began to distance themselves, teach it to forage, teach it to run from humans instead of walk right over, that sort of thing. I just can't see any commercial park putting that effort in. I see them setting it free with no basic survival skills. I'd prefer they hand control of the orca's over to conservation specialists who can teach it the skills it needs to make it outside the park, and then release it in say a year, when it has a chance of being able to hunt, survive, join a pod, that sort of thing.

@Princess_Piggie Its Okay :) . Yeah Sea world probably wouldn't do that but they really should. Tbh i did become alot more aware about captivity after watching blackfish. But I have been doing research. So Sea World did admit to giving human anti-anxiety pills to their whales which angers me and should make people realise how bad it is for those poor whales.

Thats a good idea. If Sea world should do that. I might put that on my poster!

Releasing these whales would be like putting a 5 year old in the middle of the woods and saying "good luck".
