HI,

If I were to fill a 1x2 area in a CandC cage with carefresh, how long would a 60L bag last me?

This would obviously be contingent upon how often i changed it if I had two pigs. How often would you guys change it?
Every day? Every two days? Every 3?

thanks!

A 60L bag will last about 4 changes. How often you change depend on how much the pigs use the area.

I would change once a week. The bag would be enough for one full cage.

A 60L bag of carefresh for when I used it in a 2x4 c&c cage lasted me barely 1 and 1/2 cleanings. I would change it every 7-9 days.

As as for the kitchen, it would depend on how often/much your pigs use the kitchen. Maybe every two days?

What about wood pellets? Not for the entire cage- just the kitchen area (1x2)

(How often to change and approx. how long would a 25lb bag last?)

If you can find wood pellets, I think that it would a great kitchen bedding solution. I can't find them ANYWHERE over here.
I would imagine a bag of wood pellets would last a really long time. They are so cheap that maybe you can stock up on them when you're at the store so you wouldn't have to worry about running out.

I would say change every 2-3 days.

Well....actually I found them online at https://www.drsfostersmith.com!

Tee hee!

If you buy enough on that site you won't have to worry about the expensive shipping it would be to ship that many pounds. ;)

EDIT: Actually, it would be WAY cheaper if you bought wood pellets at a store. $19.99 for 25 lbs. vs. $10 for 40 lbs.

I had three guinea pig pairs in three 2x4s and when we've been away overnight, I used Carefresh or other bedding. I prefer to use Fresh News or Sunseed bedding. I think they're both more absorbent than Carefresh and fill the area more evenly. The last time I used bedding, I had one cage with Carefresh and the other two with Fresh News. The Carefresh got smelly faster and moisture seeped to the newspaper underneath.

Thanks! I am "talking" with sugarandspice about wood pellets instead. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply though!

What part of the country do you live in?

Call your local lowe's, home depot, Walmart, Ace hardware and ask them about their hardwood wood pellets. Ask to make sure there are no flame accelerants. Maybe they could ship them to your local store and you can pick them up.

You can also go to any feed stores/ tractor supply and see if they have hardwood pellets or kiln dried pine wood pellets. Not too much scent of pine though. :)

Are wood pellets used for burning the same as guinea pig ones? I found a 40lb bag at fleet farm for $5! (We don't have a lowes near us and i would rather not pay for shipping.)
