Hi everyone,

I was just having lap time with Hazel and she sneezed, after which I noticed a tiny bit of clear moisture inside her left nostril, then she wiped her nose with her paw and the moisture was gone.

Im a little worried, I have a feeling its the hay thats making her sneeze, its a bit dusty and Hazel always has her nose stuck in it (its impossible to find really good hay where I am).

What do you guys think? Is a vet visit in order? or is it just the hay? She's perfectly normal otherwise; eating like a horse, running around, wheeking etc. I listened to her chest too which sounded normal.

Get her to the vet! :) I waited 2 days not knowing if my gal was sneezing or not (never really catching her) and once we finally got in the vet said it could have been too late if we hadn't had insisted on an appt that day or the next (the next available appt was on a mon this was a thurs). Better to be safe :) good luck and if necessary read the guinea lynx info on med dispeersal it is a life saver.

Did she just sneeze once or have you heard her sneezing with discharge from her nose more frequently? If she has a runny nose, continues sneezing, has crusty eyes or labored breathing, I'd get her in asap. Guinea pigs do sneeze occasionally, just like humans, but if it appears to be more often than less, it could be a URI.

I wouldn't take her to the vet for one sneeze. But I would watch her carefully, and if she starts sneezing more often, or has discharge from her eyes or nose, or shows other signs of not feeling well, then I'd make a vet appointment.

Thanks for the replies everyone, they are much appreciated.

It was just one sneeze, Ive heard her sneeze before, but she was right by my face this time so I noticed the moisture that came with it. Theres no discharge from her eyes or nose now, I think she's ok.

I'll probably take them all to the vet for a check up soon anyway. Thanks again for the advice
