Wilbur will continute to poop all over the cage bedding or not most likely, and if he is slipping and sliding in part of the cage (without bedding) he will probably stop going to that part of the cage all together because he will not feel safe. It's possible that he will only poop in the bedding side of the cage but highly unlikely.

That most likely won't work. But you can put bedding in one section and fleece in the rest (read about how to do it in the bedding stickies thread the Fleece Project). This will make it more decorative and still easy to clean.
