Covers Lid for 3x4 - removable and how to close the gap

I finished our new 3x4 cag yesterday. They love it!

I need help with the lid, though.
I need be able to put the lid on at night and when we have guests. So I'd like to be able to clip it on and also lift the front part. I'm going to make a loft eventually on the back 4x1 part.

Here's my dilemma- the shelving I got is only 12" deep and my grids are 14". How to fill that gap? Coroplast? Fabric?

If you haven't cut the shelving, you can take it back and get a wider piece. I think I used one 12 and one 16 inch shelves on mine.

Really?? I was planning to take it back today to get it cut v I'll see if they have bigger pieces! I wasn't feeling good yesterday theming, so looked online and my hubby went.

Really? All the home improvement stores around here have bolt cutters hanging on a chain in the shelving department so you can cut to fit before you leave the store.

Yeah, I asked and they had no bolt cutters or machines for it. My phone is having issues with double posting.
