I have a (broken link removed) that I sometimes use for my piggies - especially when I'm cleaning them out and can't keep a close eye on them free-ranging in the pet room.
It folds up flat but gives them a good space to play in - there are several different versions available in various...
I bought my fleece from (broken link removed) - all the profits go to animal rescue and they have some fantastic designs!
I use a microfibre towel layer (from ebay!) and then use machine washable incontinence pads for the bottom layer. It never feels damp and it isn't wet at all. :) x
It's better for their pellet dish to be empty for a while as it will encourage them to eat more hay. Mine get veggies in the morning and then at around tea-time. They get their pellets later on - usually just before we go to bed. This means that they have nothing but hay available to eat during...
This is true but I would add to this that you do need to feed grass you have picked immediately. I wouldn't use grass that's semi-dried / dead from outdoors though. Plus if it's from the woods it could be contaminated by wild animals or even pesticides so personally I wouldn't risk it.
Good...
My boys are Rex. I had planned to have a pair of smooth coated tri-coloured sows but when I saw the pics of the boys and read the descriptions of their cheeky characters I just fell in love. Now they are mine I love them to pieces. They are very cute, and very cheeky!
I find that they need to...
I use machine washable incontinence bed pads at the bottom of my cage - with only one layer of Microfibre towels on top. Microfibre towels are more absorbent than 'regular' towels and they are much lighter and dry faster.
I use a 'Pet washing bag' to wash the dirtiest piggy laundry in like the...
I would hold off even contemplating the 'second pig' issue until you have the cage space sorted out as the two things go hand-in-hand in my opinion.
I'm struggling to understand your position here really.... would you mind answering a couple of questions?
- Why is the cage Holly is now in...
I think my boys would pack their bags and walk out on me if I deprived them of their cherry tomatoes! ;)
They **love** tomatoes and they are the first thing they pick from their bowl - even if they are hidden on the bottom! I view them more as a 'treat' food on top of their leafy greens, pepper...
Am I right in thinking that two of your girls are also pregnant? No doubt this will add to your concerns - quite honestly in your position I would be quite concerned about how I would cope as well!! :)
Don't forget that you may need a cage for the baby boys when they are separated though in...
In all honesty if you can't upgrade the cage to any bigger - the bare minimum for two pigs being 2x3 - I would say that it wouldn't be fair to a second piggy to put them in such a small space. Floor time really doesn't make up for small living space as they are often most active when we are...
Someone on here said to use the number of grids as a guide and it's the same because 2 x 8 = 16 and 4 x 4 = 16. So it should be the same, yes.
If I could fit it into the space I have I'd prefer to have a 'squarer' cage because I think it would be more natural for them but currently I only have...
It looks great and they certainly look like they're enjoying it! They looked like they were kind of going 'oooohh what's this? and what's this? and what's over here?' lol
Great job! :cheerful:
Hi. No it's not necessary - it's generally thought nowadays that bumble foot is genetic and isn't caused by wire flooring if that's what you mean. I like to have a good layer of substrate on the bottom because it's natural for rats and other rodents to dig about etc.
If your other floors are...
Sounds good to me! :)
Hope the building goes well! I used the connectors but on 'weak points' I used cable ties as well for extra strength - or 'zipties' as I think you call them in the US, lol.
The minimum size recommended for 3 guinea pigs is a 2x5 cage - for 3 boys that would really need to be a 2x6 to prevent fighting.....
Is there any way you can make the cages wider if you can't make them longer?
I mean; could you make a 3x3 cage or a 3x4 cage? A 3x4 is the same size as a 2x6...
That's a good point...... I never thought about that!
Information on how much space piggies need is on the Home Page of this website - but you probably know that already. :)
Forgot to say - I wish you well with the cage building.
