Wow, after all this time, I think I may be getting two Guinea pigs tomorrow!!! They are skinny pigs, which are not my favorites, but their mommy died (human mommy) and her family and a close friend are trying to find homes for all her animals. No o e knows their names, how old they are or their sexes!!

I'get never paid attention to anything about skinny pigs, my question is this - are there any major differences between a skinny pig and regular piggies?

Thanks,
Michele a/k/a Koalamissy

The main difference is you need to keep a closer eye on the temperature in the room they are in, they are much more susceptible to the cold given that they are hairless. They are also more prone to skin injuries from normal dominance, particularly scratches from mounting if their cagemates nails are too sharp so you may need to file down their nails if that is an issue.

You may also notice they go through food faster then haired guinea pigs as they need more energy to maintain their body temperature, as such they also tend to poop more. You should also have a jar of cold pressed coconut oil on hand for if their skin starts getting a bit dry.

Check out skinnypigs1 on you tube, she is extremely knowledgeable about skinny pigs. :)

Thanks you two. My friend contacted me this afternoon saying no one else has shown any interest as of today, but that she was leaving in the morning to be a camp counselor for the week and won't be home till next Saturday. I told her to be fair to the piggies (since I was never interested in skinnies before) that if when she gets back next Saturday and no one else has shown an interest, I would most definitely take them. I can't let them go to a shelter where they would probably be killed!!! So I will go watch that video and do research this week just in case I become a mommy to two of them next weekend.

Well, as it turned out they went to a home where they love skinny pigs, which was perfectly fine with me.

Good to hear! I'm sure you'll find a pair that's perfect for you.

Well, funny enough, I'm about to go post about that, but I'll tell you first - I was approved on Friday by a rescue to adopt two bonded girls!!!! I'm soooo excited!! Their names are Isla and Penny!!! I can't wait to go meet them!! Going to go post now!!
