Eyes/Non-crusty Worried about Spuds' eye

Spuds has a history of the ducts in his eyes getting blocked; the one that goes from his eyes to his nose. He gets a clear discharge from his eye(s) when that happens. The problem started up and the vet was nice enough to give me some of the eye ointment without seeing him again. I gave it to him for a week like she said, and it looked like it cleared up.

Tonight, I was looking at him, and I noticed he has almost a pinkish discharge coming from one of his eyes. I know that the natural coloring in red peppers and carrots can sometimes dye the urine, and a vet told me once that the natural coloring of food has come through his rat's eyes before. Spuds has been getting an extra piece of cello carrot or 2 now that I'm back to 5 piggies; is this what's happening?

I'm trying to get a good picture of it, but Spuds keeps moving, and the lighting just isn't good.

I would think it is much more likely it is a pinkish hue due to traces of blood being present.
I would either take him back to the vet, or seek another vet for a second opinion as there is definitely something going wrong either way..

I'll call a vet tomorrow; I'm sort of stuck in a vet triangle right now, but I'd like to get him to a different vet than the one who diagnosed him with the eye trouble, but they're usually full. If they tell me to wait a week, should I? or should this be considered an urgent visit?

I would try to get him into the different vet, he should be okay waiting as long as you keep a very close eye on him for any changes, but definitely push for the earliest available appointment.

I looked at Spuds' eye today, and the discharge is back to clear. I'm still going to make a vet appointment for him in a little bit.

Sometimes eye drops can cause a little irritation.

It's been about a week since he finished his supply of eye gel. He's always been prone to eye trouble, though.

I have an appointment for Spuds next Wednesday at 4:30 with a different vet. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens.

The vet says it's allergies (possibly from fleece) and he said to give Spuds artificial tears over the gel. I was at Wal-Mart tonight and completely spaced off the pharmacy section, but I'll pick some up at Hartig Drug tomorrow when I go to get stamps. I'm glad it wasn't anything serious

Sorry, but I don't buy the allergy to fleece. To the detergent, maybe, but there's nothing in the fleece for him to be allergic to that I know of. Have you tried a different detergent in the laundry?

I've been using scent free soap on the fleece for a while, but I ran out recently and have been using my laundry soap. I took all of my fleece to a laundromat and washed them all in scent free soap.
