There's a new PetLand opening and I figured I could try to make the best of it by applyng to work there and I really need the money. Since they, like most pet stores, carry all the Kaytee junk. What would you think if I asked the manager to start carrying Oxbow products? What would you think he or she would say or think?:?:
Honestly, in today's dire financial mess that the world is in, you have to find work where it is available. While nobody in here wants to support an organization that regards living animals as expendable merchandise...you have to do what you have to do to pay the bills. As my grandfather once told me, (and this was long before this ongoing recession we're in): "Whether you're a CEO making six-and-a-half figures or whether you're a guy shoveling **** on the streets, if you're making an honest living and have a strong work ethic, nobody can hold it against you." And in honest living, what he is referring to is something that's not illegal, I.E. being a bookie, drug-dealing, you get the idea. (Although we know that the conditions in which many animals are bred in mills should hardly be considered, if they even are considered, "legal".)
Nobody should feel superior to others because of where they work--afterall, you can't ever truly know the situation that another person can be in for where they work. I know quite a few people who graduated from top colleges, had internships and other credible experience under their belt but are now unemployed and have to take work where it is available. On the flip-side, I have a couple of friends who only have a high school education and somehow managed to fall into a decent paying job simply on the basis of knowing somebody who knew somebody that worked there.
As far as getting them to incorporate Oxbow products into their stock, I agree with what the other poster said--it would be a challenge, as normally all their stuff is already planned out and I'm sure contracted with Kaytee where both parties take a decent cut in what is sold. It certainly doesn't hurt to try, so definitely go for it, but don't be discouraged.
By the way, where is Petland? I don't think I've ever heard of it. Anyways, just so you know...I don't think anyone would be judgemental of what you do for work as long as you're making an honest and decent living until something more promising comes along.
