I just wanted to make sure wool was ok for guinea pigs. My sweetie Bongo (that's him as my Avatar) loves sleeping in a wool winter hat. Actually, it might be made out of Llama or Alpaca hair. Either way, I would appreciate some feedback!
Thanks!
Kat

I know that people use a variety of materials around there piggies, fleece, towells, etc. I guess it would all depend on whether Bongo was a chewer.

He ocassionaly bites on some fabric, but have never seen him eat it.
Thanks!

I think it should be fine to use.

I want to make my skinny pig a sweater, but I think wool would be ichy against his skin. I'm gonna try cotton, I love to knit and was thinking about making little sleeping beds.

I don't really think a sweater is a good idea. It could get caught on something or choke.

Let me know if you make any! I would love to purchase them from you.

I wouldn't let him wear it unless I was holding him, or playing with him during floor time. I actually found a pattern online once for a skinny pig sweater, but I forgot the link =( I'm sure I can figure it out, I made a dog sweater once...it would be basically the same, but smaller.

Guinea pigs really don't like wearing clothes - anything that's fixed to them will just cause irritation and stress. It's far better to just use a blanket when you're holding them (if you think they need extra warmth). And in the cage to provide cosy areas like cavy cosies and cuddle cups. That way they can get cosy and warm when they need to, but not be constrained by being put in things.

I agree, please do not make the sweater. It will just frighten the poor thing.

Plus personally, I think animals look absolutely ridiculous in 'clothes' - they look much cuter au naturel, and are usually a heck of a lot happier!

te he he...yep pets look stupid in clothes! One day our Chinese Crested got out of the house and was running down the street. I had to chase after him, and this guy walking up the street asked me, "Um, ah...are you looking for a dog...wearing a blue polo shirt?" I was so embarassed!
