My pig REFUSES to eat ANYTHING green exept apples! ive tryed any vegetables i could find! he wont eat lettus, grass, dill etc etc but all i can get him to eat is those pellets, apples and carrots. is there any way i can help this? could it be because i just got him? or is it because his original owners only fed him that? please help

thanks in advance

Keep the veggies in with him overnight. He may like to eat in privacy. Carrots should be limited to ONE baby carrot three times a week. They can cause liver damage. No iceberg lettuce. Try parsley (in moderation), cilantro, kale, endive, etc. A few peices of fruit three times a week or one peice every day.

ok, ill try that. but he'll eat apples, carrots and the pellets any time, and i have only given him 1 baby carrot scince we got him, i knew they were bad if there were too many :D but we dont have many veggies right now (need to go shopping) do you think peas would work? not in a pod.

Have you tried bell peppers? My piggy loves them.

He probably doesn't know to eat it. They usually won't eat strange things because they're afraid it is poison. He needs another piggie to show him. Does he eat hay?

Overnight, try taking the pellets out and put in lots of vegetables. Like Slap said he may like to eat in privacy, so at night it will be dark and quiet. Also, when he gets his new cage mate, perhaps he can teach xcelsiar (sp?) how to eat

thats exactly what i was thinking but he started eating them now. all his original owners would feed him was carrots and pellets. i just had to let him see ME eat it so he started. (i had to eat grass ugh) but i never even had to leave them overnight :D

but... we dont have any hay yet. (today we probly will) but can grass substitute for it untill then? (broken link removed) its just grass from my backyard

Ha! You had to eat grass...what a good cavy slave you are! Yes, pigs really like grass and it can be a temporary substitute. It's good to know he's eating fine now.

thanks. ill get some hay today. and that just shows i care for exselcier! humph that'll show you. lol

It would be funny if you had to eat the hay too :) Did the previous owners give him hay? If not, then I would be worried about his teeth, the back teeth could be overgrown

only pellets and ALOT of carrots. as far is i know, they could think hay is BAD for guinea pigs!

I guess luck was on your pigs side - don't know how he managed to survive! Well at least he is getting great care from you. I would take him to the vet and get a thorough check up. If you do, remember that skin scrapings and teeth clipping is bad!

lol You had to eat grass, well it was for the piggy.

So I could just gather grass from outside as long as it hasn't been treated and give it to my future piggies?

Yes. Fresh grass is great and it has some vitamin C in it too. I've never heard of a pig that refuses to eat grass, so it's always a winnner. Also, don't pick grass that is near a road - it could be polluted with car fumes etc

we live pretty far in the woods so i dont have to worry about that. and he better be thanking me lol. i just built him a new cage. i dont ahve the coroplast yet but thats later today! (broken link removed) thats his new cage

(broken link removed) thats his old cage

ps i just ran out of litter or whatever you want to call it. the wood shaving things lol

What a great job! He will be so happy once you get the coroplast too.

An essential thing is a pigloo (Super Pet Igloo):

You can get one in most stores that sell pet supplies. This is also a good option (Timber Hide-A-Way):

[GuineaPigCages.com] wont eat anything green...

But you want to make sure they have at least two or three hiding spots when you get him a friend. This is also a great thing to have (Super Pet Cuddl-E-Cup):

I also suggest these (Super Pet Large Fiddle Sticks):

(they are bendable)

ok, thanks, ill try those. :D

Wow! You built that cage really quickly, he must really be enjoying it! Well done for making the effort! Also you can just put in some stuff you find at home in the cage; brown paper bag, toilet paper roll, a newspaper tent, a sock filled with hay, a brick, a tennis ball.

A really good thing to give him ASAP would be an unsidown cardboard box with holes cut in it. Until you can find some different things.

most of the stuff you said i have. lol i took it out for the picture. i have it so he can go through a tube into boxes then through boxes into one more box then hes out. that way my dog cant find him :D
