This little guy is up for adoption in Ohio, and I can't get over how beautiful he is. Gorgeous! Looks like such a sweetie! If anyone is near here looking for a pig and gets him let me know! I've fallen for a pig I can't have :(

I would but right now I don't think would be a good time to add a third lol. My two boys are still sorting out dominance and I'm still learning to be a good guinea pig Mama! I really do hope someone adopts him! He is gorgeous! Hopefully he finds a really good home! What breed would he be?

He, I believe, is a roan. Normally people don accept breeding this type of piggie, due to them having a lethal pig, but there's nothing wrong with adopting one from a shelter :) hope he gets a good home too :)

Ummmmm, I am not quite sure what you mean? I'm new to guinea pigs so maybe this would be common knowledge but honestly I'm confused!

:( It would be awesome if I knew who got him! I get attached to random animals for some reason and then wonder how they're doing! All of my foster dogs are this way, I always wonder how they are!

I know what you mean. We used to foster until we got pregnant with our third last year. I still talk to one of or foster dog's "mom" and we fostered him out February of last year! lol I'm so gullible when it comes to animals.

I was the same way, but since I moved I don't have contact with any of my fosters anymore, which is quite depressing. I had one that came back to me three seperate times, and I was actually going to adopt her, but ended up finding an older couple who had TONS of money. They fell in love with her, adopted her and last I knew they were on an RV touring the US!

A piggie train is where the pig is transported a short ways to multiple trustworthy people till he gets to where he needs to be!

Im sorry but Roan is not a breed in fact its a color He looks to be a short haired American(with roan coloring)!? Correct me if I'm wrong!? And with the Roan coloring (where there is a mix of white within another color) it is frowned upon to breed this coloring as there is a high risk of a lethal ( an all white baby (not all whites are lethal) with many health issues etc.) though there are few solid colors that a roan can be bred with to make these chances smaller this should still never be tried!

Edit: I should also add that it is frowned upon here to breed any piggie.. Just adding that so no one thought I was saying its ok to breed other colored piggies :/

I have NO plans to breed whatsoever. The complications are extraordinarily scary! Plus, there's too many animals out there as it is! I just didn't understand what she was trying to say! I really wish I felt comfortable getting another, but it just isn't the right time! I like browsing Petfinder, and kinda fell for him!

Hey, I live five minutes from this shelter! Kelly, my Abyssinian, came from there!

I have five females, so I don't really have a place for him myself, unfortunately.

)I'm sry I'd I didn't explain what a roan guinea pig is! It is a breed of piggie that when breeded with another of its kind, gives birth to a lethal pig. Read this short article to find out what lethal pigs are:
http://australiancavysanctuary.com/latestnewsthelethalgene.html
The roan breed and dalmation breed both carry this gene. Many people do no agree especially with breeding his pig. However, if your just adopting it from a shelter, it's completely fine. :)
this is the appearance if the typical roan breed:

https://www.google.com/search?q=roa...AQ&biw=1024&bih=672#biv=i|2;d|gVqeepA-3VpTRM:

the typical dalmation:

https://www.google.com/search?clien...18.img.KJglZ0_nkQk#biv=i|10;d|X_Gvrjn4taB9BM%

im sry, it could be a roan-dalmation mix. Or half roan and something else. It's completely fine to adopt one from a shelter, because your not supporting anything other than rehoming guinea pigs :) oh, and is also fine to even
breed a roan with a non roan, if you believe in breeding guinea pigs ( which many on this site do not I hope this clarifies things! :)

Now that I think about it, it's probably some sort of mix. A roan may be in there somewhere, because of the facial features and all, but it doesn't have all the traits :)

A roan is NOT a breed. It is a color. That article you posted is about the genetics behind roans. A roan (in all species) is a genetic mutation that occurs. I suppose you could call it a breed. But you are not going to get consistency in a standard because coat types and color variation will occur. For instance, we had a bay roan horse, and not a single baby she had was roan. One was chestnut, one was buckskin and one was grey. So, if you were determining breed based on the color, none of her babies would be roans (and thus not a member of her breed).

ETA: I did go back and review your posted link, and they did call them a "breed". But, I still say it's just a color, just as it is in every other species that has roans. And, I've never read a genetics textbook that refers to roans as a "breed".

But only other option is craigslist! YourSoJelly What is a piggy train though I never heard of that plus am still kinda new!?
