Will guinea pigs respond to your voice?

If you called their names would they come to you? Or if you said their name would they just look up?

I know that they will recodnize your voice. But I am not sure they will actually know there individual names.

Yes, Cavies do recognize your voice. Often times I find they are most responsive when they are hungry. However, whenever I call them they know. I am not sure if they understand their own names, but they do understand when they are being bad and who I'm talking to when I am scolding from across the room.

my pig Monti doesn't respond when I call him Monti, but he does respond when I call him his nickname Monsters.... or if I come in and say "I'm gonna getcha!!" then he usually runs... but only if I say that (he is a very odd pig! but I love him anyway!!!

My piggie knows the sound of my spouses car and my car! When he hears my hubbie pull up in the driveway he wheeks like crazy because he's thinks that means he's going to get treats. He never does that for strange cars or strange people.

Wow lol. My guinea pigs go crazy when they hear the vegetable bin opening and closing, it squeaks loudly, and they squeal back, cause they know they might be getting something

i oso think tht they can recognize ur voice but not neccessary know their own names u gave them

My pig Salem, knows his name . Even if I dont have food he will come to the side of the cage or put his head in the air waiting for me. I trained him by calling his name and then giving him a treat. It eventually worked. Salem's son,Samson, is getting the hang of it. My girls are another story though.
