I have been having a couple white spots on the fleece, but they are smooth and not nearly so many as they used to appear. What I'm concered about is that some poops have little white smudges on them. Anything to worry about?

What are you feeding your pigs? And what kind of hay are they getting?

They are getting green leaf lettuce, some small pieces of romaine, yellow bell peppers (red ever so often), sprigs of cilantro, sprigs of parsley, carrots ever so often, and apples as treats. I give them Oxbow hay.

First off, I'd cut off the romaine and the parsley.

Oxbow is just a company that sells different kinds of hay -- we'd have to know what kind of hay -- timothy, alfalfa, orchard grass, etc.

And what kind of pellets are they getting?

I give them western timothy hay. Are you sure I should cut romaine off? I wouldn't have enough lettuce. Unfortunely they don' have the right kind of pellets, but they are plain and have vit.C (they're naturally preserved). Is it usual for poops to have white smudges on them?

Next time I'm getting Oxbow pellets. Didn't have the choice this time. :(

I look up the "white smudges" on his poop problem on guinea lynx here:https://www.guinealynx.info/normal.html#droppings

The only thing that I can think that it might be, is yeast. Look at the above link I gave you. Under the caption title Droppings and then, NOT NORMAL. Read what they say, third bullet down on the list about yeast. Do you think that might be it ?

Why can you buy romaine but not other kinds of lettuce?

If you're seeing white deposits from the urine, I'd suggest buying Kleenmama pellets rather than Oxbow. Some people have had pigs with sludge problems that cleared up when switching from Oxbow to KM.

How about some pictures of the poops with the white smudges? I'm not so sure it's yeast, but can't really say until we can see pictures.

Soory, scooped up all the poop. Would the yeast be in the pellets? Is it bad that there are white smudges?

Pretty piggies, we don't know whether it's bad or not that there are white streaks in the poop, because we don't know what's causing them. I realize you scooped up all the poop, but these are guinea pigs -- if there's anything that's almost guaranteed, it is that there will shortly be more poop. If you can take a picture of the white streaks, we'll see if we can help you figure it out. Until then, we're just guessing.

Yes it would be much easier to give you some educated guesses, if we had a couple "close up" pictures of your piggies poop ! LOL Sometimes the things we talk about on here, is just too funny, when you stop to think about it. I agree with Billie,( heeheehee) if there is ONE thing you can count on with guinea pigs, is piles and piles of POOP ! They are beloved little poop machines, LOL ! HAHaHO!!

Sorry! I was on vacation, and yes they do poop a lot! Here's a picture: [GuineaPigCages.com] White Spots

Does the fresh poop look like that, or only poop that's been in the cage for a day or so? or longer?

Probably the old poop, most of them are pretty hard.

If it's the old poop, it's probably mold, and nothing to worry about. If it's new poop, then we'll worry. :) Not really, but we will have to figure out what it is.

Watch it very carefully for several days after your next cage cleaning, and make an extra effort to get all the old poop out when you do clean it. If you don't see any under those conditions, then it's just old moldy poop.
