I noticed that when looking at a lot of cages in the albums that they were like grates all attached and they were big. Whats on the floor or the cages and how do you clean them? I would like to get one because I want to have more room for my piggy. Please Help

I could explain, but Teresa does a fine job here:

https://guineapigcages.com/cubes.htm

Read this entire site. It's chock full of great ideas, instructions and locations on where to find the materials.

C&C cages are big, easy to clean and easy on the eyes. You couldn't ask for more!

Yes that website was very useful. however how do you clean them?

What, the cubes? You don't need to. All you need to clean is the coroplast. This whole website is dedicated to those 'grate' cages, so feel free to ask about anything else.

I meant cleaning the shavings out. It seems like it would be a lot of work because you can't just lift it out and dump it like the cage I have now.

Also any ideas of flooring or where to get coroplast in Western Massachusetts?

I use a dust pan and little broom, it doesn't take very long about 5 mins. to get all the bedding out then I use vinger and water to disinfect the coroplast.. I find it is easier to clean than the pet store cages because you don't have to clean it as often. And I am not a fan of having to take the cage outside and dumping the bedding in the trash can. It would always miss and fly around every where... And when I had to clean the pet store cage it was filling up my trash can because I had to clean it once or twice a week.
Well good luck with your cage..

For cleaning, see this: https://guineapigcages.com/cleaning.htm. I use the first idea (scooping with a dustpan) on my bottom layer, and I line the top with newspaper for easy rollup.

For coroplast, you can try checking here: www.fastsigns.com.

Or you can check here: https://guineapigcages.com/where.htm for where others in your area found theirs.

And you can always call sign shops and ask for a quote if they do carry it (some will be more expensive than others). It may be helpful to mention it is for a guinea pig cage, as they may give you a better price for it.

Good luck, and don't forget to post some pictures when you're through!

Of course you can! Lift up the coroplast box and dump out all the shavings.

I scoop out the shavings with a dustpan. However, my cages are 3x4 and a bit bulky to dump out.

I got my pieces from k-mart

I got my pieces from k-mart to make a C&C cage.

Althugh I´ve seen the recommendations, I would like to know what could replace the cubes, since they are not available in Argentina. If the grids are metallic, is it harmful for the piggies if they are painted or covered in that plastic like fridge shelves?

You could just use wire ( around 14 inches high and small holes so piggies couldn't fit through) and bend it to fit around the coroplast. I don't think the grids are harmful unless they chew on them, and that shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks a million. I will now have to go hunting for the material (even coroplast is difficult to get around here) Still the little ones are worth the effort.

Hello

Hello, I live in Mass. also, and I emailed: [email protected], I just bought my cage from her, took one day after paypal for the cage to arrive, email her questions, concerns, I had many and she was the best, I found her link on this web site and I love it, I line our cage w/ 5 sheets of newspapers, because our girls were eating and wetting thru 2 sheets, once I sweep all the shaving into the corner and onto the 5 sheets I just lift it out and it's all clean, easy, after wiping the bottom out I lay down the fresh newspapers and put shavings in there, also I only put newspapers in the 4 corners and I leave the middle open for hay, food bowls and that way they only mess in the corners, I thought I would have a hard time cleaning but they are only messing on the shavings so it's alot easier than the store cage. email me any questions or [email protected],
mine email is : [email protected]

It is actually so much easier than the small store bought cages. I just take a dustpan and scoop it all out into the trash sack!

It only takes around 10 minutes to change. That includes when I vaccuum out the poos that won't stay in the pan.

Couldn't be easier, it takes longer for my cat's litter boxes!!!

Good luck with the new cage, you found the right place!!!

I use linolium instead of coroplast. Which luckily I got for free and I got a lot!! :D I got it from the people who was building our house. The linolium kind of rips easily though.
