where do mites come from?

Yes, I'm a newbie to guinea pigs, so sorry for the silly question but I couldn't find it anywhere. Assuming that my piggie came to me without mites (in a perfect world), how would she get mites once she's here and how would I know she's got them?

They remain dormant ina guinea pig. They are always there and strive when your pig is stressed out and their immune system isn't 100%. Thats why alot of time healthy pig will get sick when they get home after the stress of the car ride.
