hey guys in a few days i am getting 2 more guinea pigs on tuesday or the following tuesday i already have 2 any way i have 2X3 cage at the moment with a roof on so all together i have 15 grids but to make the right cage for the 4 of them i need 2X6 which means i need a total of 16 but im not just going to go out and buy another packet of 5 grids for $18 plus i live 2 hours away from my supplier and another thing is i am 14 and i only get paid $5 a forenight wich isnt much to muck out 15 stables and i live in austrlia. is there anything i can do cause i am just about to give up and i cant tell the rescue i cant have the 2 piggies cause it not fair on the piggies. is there anything i can do or do i just give up

There are alternatives to grids. Look around the site to get some ideas. Maybe there's something you have around your house, or that you can get that's cheap to expand your current cage.

So if I understand it correctly, you need 1 more grid? Is your cage lid made of grids? Can you use one of the grids from the lid? Is it really $18 for a pack of 5 grids?? They sell a box of them at places like Bed, Bath & Beyond for that much and there are 20 grids per box.

why not just get 1 more guinea pig?
do you HAVE TO get 2 more?

She said that INCLUDING the lid, she has 15 grids.

If you can't afford more grids, then maybe it won't be best to adopt 2 more piggies. Not saying that to be mean, but things can happen to piggies and they can become pricey.

hey guys altogether i have 16 grids including the lid of my cage already i just need ONE more grid to make it 2X6 then i am using a huge cupboard box to use the lid once i just get that one more grid. and yes i am serious about the price for 5 i do live in australia queensland

Okay, here is what Im, thinking, let me know if Im misunderstanding:

You currently have a 2X3 so that's 10 grids. You have a lid for your 2X3 so thats 6 more grids. if you take apart your lid, you will have the 6 grids (for a total of 16) you need to expand your 2X3 to a 2X6.

You are 14 and adopting 2 more piggies, your parents wont help you get the supplies you need?

If you have 16 grids you don't need 1 more grid.
6 n 6 is 12
and 2 n 2 is 4
12 n 4 is 16

i have bought 3 packs of 5 grids last year when i went into brisbane. anyway i have a cage that is 2X3 which yes is ten grids then on the lid there is 5 for the lid and a small cardborad box covering the on grid missing and so 3 times 5= 15 so i need one more. and no my parents wont help me cause my mum is already done so much for me she single mother and my dad is to cheap skate to help me. SORRY ABOUT MY LAST POST I MEANT I HAVE 15 IN TOTAL

I wouldn't get anymore guinea pigs in your situatition.
Anything can happen and before you know it your spending tons at the vet office and possibly having to rehome the guinea pigs.
sry if that came off a bit rude

no its alright i understand

Please don't adopt more pigs. I'm sure the rescue will understand if you tell them you are not ready for more. It's better to save up money for your current pigs in case they need vet care.

ok guys i understand thanks anyway for the helps

What if you make it 3x5 on one side and 3x4 with one grid being diagnal like this:
._ _ _ _ _
|........... |
|........... |
\ _ _ _ _ |

*Edit* ignore the periods, I had to put them in there so it would space correctly, extra spaces weren't working

I know it's a terrible diagram and it isn't QUITE enough space but it should work until you have the money to get the other grids. *Connectors won't hold it like this, you'll need zip ties*

I understand why everyone else on here seems to think you shouldn't adopt the other guinea pigs, since you're having trouble affording the ones you already have - but if you're willing to save up your money to give them a nice home, and you are willing to do what it takes to help them, why shouldn't we try to help you figure this out? Anyway that's my two cents for what it's worth.

any ideas
