I don't know if this is where it should be posted or not. If not feel free to move it. In the 3 1/2 weeks we have had our guinea pigs I have replaced the water bottles 2 times, and for the same reason, drips constantly. What type of water bottle is the best one to get in your opinion. What do you use. I started out with a critter canteen (plastic and where the spout screws on it got stripped out) the most recent one I bought is a Glass chew proof water bottle. Do you have any ideas??

It doesn't really matter if the brand says they don't leak or not, any water bottle is going to drip SOME. Find one with a vacuume seal, and it helps if you leave a little room instead of filling it all the way up, than when it's up right (in the position it's supposed to be), press on the ball for a few seconds than let go. It helps seal the vacuume, and if you want you can put a brick under it to help absorb the drips.

Actually, if you fill a bottle pretty much to the rim and and don't leave room in it, it's less likely to drip. The water bottles I have, have never leaked unless they aren't filled properly.

My boys have cheapie bottles from Wally World (aka Wal Mart). I fill them all the way up, screw on the cap, and then put it upright and squeeze it a little to "activate the vacuum seal" like it said on the instructions on the packaging. Sometimes they don't stay straight up and down, and will then drip on occasion.

I have a critter canteen bottle. It doesn't drip unless it's on a wierd angle. I just fiddle with it until the angle's right, and it won't drip.

Thats funny, I was told by someone that its better the other way around, now that you mention it, it makes more sense. Thanks.

I've never had any luck with walmart water bottles for anything, and I've tried several (for emergency rescues, mostly) -- I suggest going to petsmart/co or ordering one online. Something like this (Super Pet® Water Bottle Flat-Bac 32 oz. #61933) would be a good investment, and not that much more expensive... and then you wouldn't have to replace it nearly as often!

I've used that same water bottle for my old rats for years and never had any complaints. I'm reasonably certain that it would work with a c&c cage, too, though I haven't tried it yet. Still, for some reason, walmart water bottles always leak like crazy.

Good luck!

I've tried a few different brands but now I stick with the Classic Pet Products made by Caldex Ltd (available from Wilkos in the UK) as my pigs seem to prefer those. They won't drink from the Critter Canteen ones.

I got two of these for our girls Edstrom's Water Buddy, Available in 8oz, 16oz and 32oz. there kinda pricey but totally worth it. Havent had a single drip since we put them in. Plus they use a valve system instead of a vacuum seal so it doesnt suck backwash up into the bottle when the piggers are drinking.

I have a 32 oz. Farnam Pet Rabbit Bottle. It hardly leaks, but it has just started leaking a bit in the past couple of weeks. But I have had it for about 4 years, and I am definetly getting another one!

I have a lot of water bottles, because we often go on trips and I supply them with multiple water bottles so that until a person visits, they don't run out of water. I got almost all of them at a local pet shop, although they are also available at Petco or Petsmart, in the US.

  • The chew proof water bottles are the first of their kind and completely chew proof.
  • The glass bottle and stainless steel cap help to eliminate chewing destruction.

Made by: SUPER PET

This is the Super Pet bottle that I have been using for the past 4 months. Prior to this I went through about 3 bottles within weeks. Since I changed to this bottle I haven't had any problem with leaks at all.
