Hay What type of hay is this?

Previous hays I've bought were skinny, and had alfalfa like fuzzy things on it, and blades with various textures like soft, hard and pokey.

I bought this new hay, it's locally made, so it's not branded, no labels. The way it's packaged, unlike previous hays, that were messed up in the plastic bag like shredded paper, the one I've bought are organized like pencils in a can. It's green, very flat, crunch, not stringy, I'd say it's fat flat, no fuzzy timothy stuff mixed with it. It smells like the strawberry's in special K. The pet shop person said it's "shoal/scoal hay" either she made that up, or I heard wrong.

I have no idea what this is. It looks and smells nice but I'm a little skeptical. If you guys also can't tell what this is, I'll upload pictures later. I can't do that now, internet connection is so slow. :(

Your pigs need grass hay. Alfalfa is not a grass hay. Timothy is a grass hay. I am not familar with shoal/scal hay.
There are many types of grass hay. If you can find out more about this hay and if it is a grass hay it should be safe to give to your pigs. Also make sure it has not been sprayed with any chemicals.

I also worry that the hay I bought was pesticide free or not, too bad I wasn't thinking about this before I bought it. But for now, I'm not going to give it to piggies. I can use this to warn other people in my area.

I have not been able to find a listing for shoal/scal hay so far. I am going to look one more place and get back to you.

I don't think it even exists :) from my "research" it looks like Bermuda.

I cannot find shoal/scol hay. I went on guinealynx. to their hay chart. It was not listed as such. It says all grass hay can be given. If this is a grass hay without chemicals it should be ok.
I would let some others see if they have heard of this or can answer you any better.

Could it be Oaten or Barley Hay? Your description sounds very similar to what these hays look like.

If it's a local hay, ask the petshop person who they buy it from. The should be able to tell you what it is.

I've never heard of shoal/scoal hay either. The closest thing to that I know of is coastal hay, which is a grass hay but very poor quality.

That looks similar to the KMS bluegrass I just bought, but I can in no way determine what hay it is. Call the shop you bought it from and ask again, you'll get a much more accurate answer than we can give from pictures alone. They had to buy the hay from somewhere, and their records should reflect this.

Nooo I'm too lazy, I don't even have their number nor do I have landline. :p I will ask again, when I go back there. But for now I like the guessing. I have a strong feeling it's elephant grass. What do you guys think?

We can't tell any better than you can, and most of us have never even seen (or heard of) elephant grass. Sorry!
