What to use instead of towels?

I currently use one layer of fleece over towels. The problem is that my new cage is twice as big as the old one. I use three towels in the old cage, so I would probably have to use 6 with the new cage. That is a lot of towels to buy and wash. Does anyone have a good suggestion of a disposable alternative? I was thinking about bedding - newspaper - fleece. But then I was thinking that that would be too crinkly. I was also thinking about puppy pads but didnt know if this was economical. I dont know where I could go to get them really cheap. I also found that I would need the extra large pads to cover the width of my cage. I can get 12 extra large pads for $7 at walmart. This will take care of 3-4 cleanings.
Has anyone tried fleece over plain bedding, or does the bedding stick to the fleece too much?
I would love to know what would work the best.
Thanks

I know someone uses puppy pads on the bottom and then newspaper and then the fleece. You could also get waterproof crib mattresses instead of the puppy pads. How much extra laundry would 3 more towels be? I only have one change of towels and fleece for my 4x6 and it all fits in one load of laundry. When it is time to clean the cage I set up floor time and throw their stuff in the wash. Then they get floor time untill the laundry is done. I do this about every 5-6 days.

Laundry is a huge issue with me. I dont have a washer and dryer. I have about 5 changes of towels and about 8 changes of fleece. I either have to go to my parents to wash (when they arent home. shhh... they dont know I wash out my bedding there) or the laundomat. It isnt very convenient to haul those towels all over town.
I havent gone to the laundromat yet because I'm too embarrased that someone will smell my stinky towels. haha.

Ahh I see. I would say try the puppy pads with newspaper on top or even just newspaper without the puppy pads. Just make sure to clean the coroplast really well with vingar and water when you clean. I would not want to drag stinky towels to the laundramat either. I might have to soon though because we are having problems with our washer right now since we have roots growing in our sewer line. If I do more than one load per day the water backs up into my bathtub and toilet. I am not looking forward to paying the plumber to root the stupid thing.

I think I will try the puppy pads for now. Can anyone give me an idea of where I can get them for cheap. I will look into ordering online to see what I can find.

The best deal on puppy pads I found was 12 for $7 for the extra large ones that will fit in my cage. Has anyone found them cheaper, or have an alternative suggestion?

How often do you change the puppy pads?

I check them when i change the cage. If they are soiled I change them out. If they are not them I leave them in there. I have 7 in there and at least 3 will have some pee on them when I change the cage.

I found 32 at Wal-Mart for about 10 bucks (canadian). But they're small ones.

If you're comfortable with buying online, I bought puppy pads on ebay. This is the seller I went through. http://stores.ebay.com/Medinet-Medical-Supply He was even kind enough to tell me that it would be cheaper to buy 2 boxes and pay shipping than to buy the huge box and get shipping for free.

I've found that plain old newspaper works great; we get ours for free from our neighbor. You might want to make sure to turn the paper up at the edges of the cage, or else it's neigh impossible to get all the little turds out.

Plain newspaper with nothing else in the cage ends up a smelly situation and isn't very warm for piggies to lay on when it's cold. I use newspaper in my hayloft only, but there is a fair amount of hay over it too that the girls drag out of the suspended hayrack and it's changed every other day, sometimes every day if they make a really big mess out of it.

I buy a pack of 50 adult sized dog pads, brand name- "On Your Own", from Wal-Mart for under $13. I use them alot. One almost every day to serve their veggies on in addition to under my newspaper.

I'm setting up my new cage today. Can I just put down the puppy pads and cover with the fleece? Do I need some other layer?
