Hay keeps their teeth trim but my pigs like to chew on paper bags, apple tree twigs, cardboard boxes and cardboard egg cartons.

1st is the hardest, then it goes softer after each cut.

Anyone give their piggies timothy hay blocks? I'm not really sure how they make them so hard? My piggies both love them. Is there anything harmful in them?

I am having a problem with my guys chewing on......NOTHING but their pellets and the timothy hay I am giving them. Any suggestions? They wont touch the blocks I give them that they are SUPPOSED to chew on. They wont eat any veggies or fruits....except grapes which are only a seldom treat. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance!

trvlpk I'm not sure what kind of block you are talking about, but pigs don't need those to keep their teeth worn down. All they need is hay, most of us just add in some extra chew toys to keep them entertained. To introduce veggies and fruits, it is suggested that you cut up a few small pieces of a veggie/fruit you want to introduce and put them in their pellets so that they get the taste.

So Timothy hay is enough? I buy the Kaytee brand. Is this ok? I just want to make sure that I am keeping these fur babies healthy! :) I have done tons of research on here before I got them but obviously keep learning more....especially about personalities and what they do and dont like.

As PigP stated, cut the veggies small and mix them with their pellets or shredding veg over pellets is a great way to get them used to it as well. Do not forget to toss the pellets every few hours and do it again (the veg will spoil so you need to change it frequently).

Ok, great! Thanks a BUNCH! I was just out shopping and found one of the toys that hangs from the top of the cage with the chew stuff on it and hung it in there. My "baby" seems to like it alot! He also throws around the cat balls I got him that are the thickest plastic I think I have ever seen a cat toy made from! (Safety first!)
