Cage What to do with store bought cage???

I will be upgrading to a C&C cage soon, but I don't know what to do with my store bought cage. I only have one guinea pig, so I don't think I really need the separate cage. I don't really want to sell the cage online because I'm worried that other guinea pig owners will buy it and it may not be suitable for their new piggy. Please give advice/tips and if you changed cages, if you could do like a before/after contrast or something, that'd be much appreciated! I will probably buy from guinea pig cages store connected to this forum. I am thinking of a 2x4 with a loft or a 2x3.5 with a loft, if you were wondering! Pictures of your cages are always appreciated too!

Most people keep their store bought cage to use in case of emergency, like needing a travel cage, or hospital confinement when the pig needs quarantining after a broken leg etc.

The cage is much too big for a travel cage. Just misinformed- but why would the piggy need to be quarantined? I only have the one piggy.

If your pig breaks a leg, it needs quarantining to a small area so it hasn't got as much travel space.

Since i only have the one, I'll be getting a 2x3.5 or 2x4 cage lol I'm not sure it's big enough!

Donate it to a rescue, they can always use spare cages.

I just upgraded my 2x3 C&C to a 2x4 C&C (with a shower curtain bottom). I used my old pet store cage for the kitchen . Below are some pictures of the final outcome...

Looks great! Still, my cage would be too big for it to fit in a C&C cage horizontally if it's 2xsomething.

You could do 3x3 or have it along the 4 side.

I'll have to see about that since I was thinking of buying from the store via Sue's store (up top).

If I end up making my own C&C grid cage, if you happen to know, do I absolutely NEED to use coroplast? My guinea pig is very good at peeing/pooping only in the areas with bedding!

You don't need it, but you do need some sort of plastic waterproof barrier. You can find it (corrugated plastic) at your local sign shop, Lowes or Home Depot. You'll probably find it the cheapest at the sign shop.

Or you could do what [MENTION=29755]labgirl5[/MENTION] did and use a shower curtain (goodwill) on the bottom.

Linoleum is also another option.

I've kept mine in case I need to put her in a smaller confine so she doesn't move a lot due to illness or injury or if I have to leave her with a friend at her place. All emergency type things.

Nice Just wondering, does your piggy prefer one side to another? Does he/she tend to pee/poop more in the bedding or the fleece? Does your piggy have problems crossing over between cages? THanks

Not my cage. I found it in the gallery.

My cage also has a sectioned off kitchen. They don't have preference to one side or another. They poop and pee more in the kitchen (feeding) area, but do poop and pee on the fleece side too.
