Hello, I just joined this site a few moments ago. I'm in need of help if possible. Sadly moments ago I lost my sweet "Emily". She was an American breed. She gave birth on my birthday May 5th in the early hours. She leaves behind 2 pups that I have no clue on what to do. Can I please get some help on how to help them survive? I don't wanna lose them. I do have 2 adult males as well. I looked at several sites but none are really helping me. Thank you so much if you can help!

Welcome! I am so sorry for your loss. :( I do not have any experience with pups but you've come to the right place! There are some very experienced cavy lovers here and I am sure they will help you out. *Hugs*

I'm sorry you lost your piggy.

The pups may do just fine, but read this for some good information on how to handle them: http://www.guinealynx.info/handfeeding.html#pups

The main things to remember are to weigh daily at the same time of day (before breakfast is really an ideal time), no milk substitutes, and give them plenty of hay and pellets, along with some red or green leaf lettuce and some bell pepper. When they'll eat those veggies, you can start adding others in.

Good luck, and keep us posted on how they're doing.

Thank you all! So it's ok to give them veggie's and pellets with them being 4 days old?

It's fine to feed them whatever you'd feed an adult pig. But per the Guinea Lynx site, you need to supplement that with plain pumpkin (not the pumpkin pie mix) or baby food.

They also learn to eat veggies by watching other pigs eat. It would be great if you had an older sow or neutered boar who could serve as a nanny -- they'd learn a lot, as well as have someone to hide behind!

I have 2 males, 1 is actually the father. Emily was my only sow in 2-3 years. Both males are fertile as well :/ Where I live, the animal doctors will not see my pigs due to they are exotic pets and not in their field. I gave the pups small lettuce pieces. 1 of them went straight for it and started eating. The other won't budge. Just sits in the house or hide in a corner. Whistles quite often and loud. :(

**UPDATE** First wanna thank everyone for the comments and tips! Happy to say the babies are doing fantastic! I did find out the sex (male and female) and working quickly to get them separated. The love cucumbers! I tried celery, lettuce, ans carrot chips but they turned their noses. Will post pics soon!!
