what should be a good idea of things pigs need

Some fun things are boxes, paper bags filled with hay, balls of newspaper. You can entertain them for cheap! You can always get them cuddle cups and hammocks later. Start out simple.

I don't use one I get my hay from a rescue and it cheep. Is it real important to have one?

You don't have to buy any Hidey House. I make my out of cardboard boxes or/and pop boxes

@RodentsRus - I didn't mean to imply that all this stuff had to be purchased. Many things can be recycled and used in your guinea pig cage. I was just trying to give a quick idea of the things to be on the look out for.

A hay rack isn't necessary, but I promise it helps out a lot. Hay gets really stinky ones it's been peed on.

I know that..I was just adding that because after having guineapig for 4 yrs. I just learned that myself..

I don't find that as long as I change it every day hehehe

If you are using a C&C cage you can make a nice big hay rack with one of the extra grids. Just bend the grid in half and zip tie it to the cage grids. Below is my hay rack... not the best photo, but you get the idea.



I also have a hay rack that I made out of a toilet paper roll holder. It was like $2 as a discount store and it works great!

Personally, I prefer using hay racks as opposed to just throwing it on the floor as you waste a lot of hay that way.
