Hello, I have a Guinea pig with tummy troubles. He is currently was the food "Menu" for the longest time. Maybe a year or two. But i discovered it is made with alfalfa when I became more in tune with guinea pig health. ( sadly I wasn't always this peculiar about my piggie's safety and health ) but since he has SUCH a sensitive stomach, we ( ppl on this forum, my vet, and I ) decided it would be best not to switch him over yet. Well it turns out he started doing much better ( i thought he wouldn't live ). So we decided it was time to start switching him. We also thought it important to switch him because this food is its stopping production! So we bought two 5 lb bags and are stocked up for my one piggie (he is alone and that has been approved by my vet and ppl on this forum because of rare health circumstances).

Down to to the point, he is not taking well to the new food. By that I mean he doesn't like it. I can tell by his poo. Yet, this is a great oxbow brand pellet that is Timothy based with no 'treaties' in it. Perfect, right? But his "Menu" food now has treaties. He has actually been in protest of it, pushing his food bowl around making it fill up with bedding. Also he squeaks more often, obviously because he wants more food ( because as of now I am giving him 1/4 menu and 3/4 oxbow ).

I was trying to give him 3/4 menu and 1/4 oxbow for a week, 1/2 menu then 1/2 oxbow for theft wee, but he never ate the oxbow pellets. So he basically has went from 3/4 Menu and 1/4 oxbow to 3/4 oxbow and 1/4 menu to try to get him to actually eat tubs other kind of pellet. I think he likes it, he begs for it in a syringe. But he won't eat it plain.

Anyone know what I can or should do?

I'm sorry there were so many grammatical errors and miswordings- I was limited on time. I could have done so much better, and if there is anything you would like me to clarify I would be more than happy to do so. Thanks.

What kind of tummy troubles? Bloat? Diarrhea? Constipation?

It's recommended to switch cold turkey. Just give the new pellets, he'll figure out you won't be giving him any more of the junk food and will eventually eat it.

Really? Wow. I did not know that. Thank you so much!

Oh, and his tummy troubles are everything you can think of- literally. At least for the longest time. But like I said, he is
now recovering.

f your vet thinks it is best to mix pellets, I would at least pick out the treat parts of his old food so only the plain pellets are making it to his dish.

But as previously mentioned it is not typically necessary to do so.

Thank you. I may consider eras king her considering his new improvement circumstances.
