I just started using the liquid stuff that you put in the rabbit's water to naturally ELIMINATE THE SMELL of their urine. My rabbit is male and hasn't been neutered yet (I made his appt with the vet yesterday!!!). He's about 8mos old and I noticed just in the last few weeks that his urine has REALLY begun to smell, even after 24hrs I notice it. I have begun changing the litter every 24-48 hrs. TEENAGERS! Last night I went out and bought a COVERED "Cat" litter box which I have attached to the side of his cage so he can use it while in his cage.
I am going to start using aspen pellets for litter - any opinions on this type of litter?
I had been using a thick layer of newspaper (my father gets a ton of newspapers so I get an endless supply) with shredded junkmail (put through a crosscut shredder... white, non-glossy paper only) on top of that. I don't think it is absorbent enough though - although the price is right!
He also enjoys the shredded paper for bedding - the crosscut shredder creates a soft and fluffy bed of paper. He likes laying in it.
I have also heard of using wood pellets for litter as well... Any opinions on this? Anyone used this before? My parents have a wood pellet stove so it would be a cheap option for me.
Why is the rabbit scoopable litter so expensive?!!! My goodness!
I have a small home so eliminating smell is a big deal to me.
Thanks for your opinion!
