Hello everyone! I'm using arm & hammer for sensitive skin detergent to wash my fleece. However after washing the pigs fleece , I find that my fleece still has an oder towels that I also toss in my wash are also a bit stiff. It takes two washes to get the oder out. So I'm thinking maybe it's the detergent. I am new to fleece bedding so I would love to hear any tips and tricks , or if I'm doing something wrong.

Here are the details of my fleece and how I wash it.

- My fleece is an anti pill fleece on top of bed pad (the bed pad is washable and dry able)
- I use about a lid worth of detergent and a cup of vinegar , wash with hot water.
-last wash I tossed in some arm & hammer baking soda wash boosting stuff but it did not do much.

I have been using All Free and Clear. Now, I have only washed soiled pads once, so I'm no expert, but they came out nice, and I sniffed them pretty deeply before throwing them in the dryer, and they smelled pee-free!

I boil wash my fleeces and towels using Fairy unscented NonBio Liquid. Never have had a problem with any odours but I do have to de clog the washing machine once a month from stray hay and general detritus!

You can use generic dye and scent free detergent too. I make my own detergent by the gallon. Using that detergent plus a cup of vinegar my fleece has been smell free. Take a sniff before tossing in the dryer, if still stinky rewash it on a small, hot cycle w/ your detergent plus one cup of vinegar again. Good luck! :)

Personally I swear by A Happy Green Life products. The cage store here sells a variety of scents. It cleans all laundy (both piggy and non piggy) like a charm! I wouldn't use anything else now that ive had it for a while and can compare to other detegents out there.
I also recommend their stripping powder to get rid of residue that builds up over time and doesn't get washed out by detergent. Its usually those residues that cause the piggy smell to still be there after washing. I also use it to strip hubbys work pants, towels, sheets and my friend strips cloth diapers. It also restores better absorbancy!

Here's an example of how good the stripping.powder works.... stripped one pair of regularly washed work pants. Hubby works security at the docks and is exposed to all elements plus the work environment of the dock/ship workers every day.....

Actually I just use Tide as my parents think it's useless to buy something else just for the pigs and then I just use a clean washer cycle on my washer after it's done. Tide actually does pretty good for me. You can detect a bit of pig scent but it's not bad

I started using dawn original, just a little squirt and vinegar.

I use tide with color safe (powdered version) bleach & add an additional rinse to the cycle. Its possible you could be to you are over stuffing your washer. It takes me 2 loads for the guineakids stuff but I very loosely put everything in so nothing gets trapped between material

I use whatever my Mom bought that week. Every other time I toss a little bleach in there and that takes care of anything yucky. I always let my pads air before I put them in with the pigs- so I don't smell any bleach.

I've used All Free and Clear and it did NOT work well with our clothes. And the guinea pigs' laundry is the dirtiest of all our laundries. I use ERA. I've also used Gain as well as Tide before. And ERA cleans just as well as Gain/Tide. It is also cheaper. A larger container was priced about $10? Don't remember exactly, but it was quite cheaper than the other brands.

I use what ever I pick up, usually the cheapes at that time. I throw in a cup of viniger and dry when done. Some times I run another rinse cycle. I been thinking of using dreft we used that on our kids cloths when they were babies and I tell nothing had a chance when that was used.
