Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas for new kinds of houses for my pig. I have a cardboard box and cozies in her cage, but I want some other ideas.....cozies,plastic house, cardboard, how to make, etc. And what did your guinea pig like the best? Thanks

My guinea pigs LOVE tunnels to hide and sleep in!! Also I made my piggies a cuddle cup
from instructions from a user on this site.

I have to say, although I used to be an advocate for houses made from natural products (wood, straw, etc.) I have now purchased a pigloo and made a box from cloroplast and positioned it on top of the pigloo (like a shoebox on its side), so they have a bunkbed and they love it. I took some fleece and put it in the front of the upper bed and cuts strips into it so that they can get into the top level but it closes behind them so they still have privacy. I have used straw nests and wood houses in the past but I have to say they get spoiled easily once they get pee on it and then get moldy (which is really bad for the pig). So if you make anything I would make it out of plastic so that you can clean it easily. If you look in the photos section some people have posted pictures of the various hidey houses they have made.

Mine love their childrens step up stool.

A pigloo and a cuddle cup are a must.

I want to get her a pigloo or some kind of plastic house. She had a wood house that I had made but her poop always stuck to the sides of it and I use fleece. I also wasn't sure what kind of wood it was. How much are the pigloos or a plastic house? Maybe I'll check petco or petsmarts websites. Thanks for all the ideas.

I think petco has the perfect sized one on sale right now.

Try (broken link removed) or (broken link removed) that way you aren't supporting a petstore that sells animals.

My piggies likes plastic tools. They likes to hide under it and also sleep on top of it. I think the idea is good as they no need to sleep on the bedding.

I have a variety of pig houses that I change out every week or so to give them variety. I have a large Pigloo, a wooden hutch, a large wicker type ball (that they don't like to go inside, but seem to enjoy pushing it around the cage....LOL-like soccer) and a whatever clean towel is on hand to make a hidey-tent.
By the way, I was thinking about taking the wicker ball and cutting it in half. To make it seem more like a hidey house. Has anyone tried this and do they know if it will work??
But back to the subject - they'll like just about anything. GP's are "flight" animals by nature and love to hide and feel secure. You can even give them a brown paper bag every once in a while during floor time. They'll hide in it and chew on the edges a bit. About that, you just have to make sure that paper bag wasn't treated with anything that'll be bad for the pigs.
Good luck and post some pics on what you (or your piggies, rather) decide on.

Cavy Caves! My girls love them.

My pig loves brown paper bags.

My piggies love grid tunnels. you can also hang bells off of them if you don't have a top on your cage.

I have many kinds of houses for them that I change every week. They love the ferret houses, like the fleece tepee and the square fleece house with 4 holes to go in and out. They also like the cozy I purchased from Ly&Pigs. They enjoy a wicker basket with a pillow in it that they jump into and relax while they chew on the basket. They are all easily washable. There are others I want to get at the ferret site.

I have a hammock, a cat basket, a triangular plastic towel shelf, two ramps, two fiddlesticks tunnels, a grid house with a towel as a roof, a bucket with a towel inside, and a plastic house made especially for pigs. The only thing that never gets used is the plastic house. *G*

Everybody keeps mentioning brown paper bags as a toy....mine go in them and pee and then they get soaked with their own urine, yuck!

I'm lauging here. So true. In the beginning when I gave them free time and I gave them a paper bag, they would also urinate and poop in there. YUCK., was it nasty. Also the same holds true for those plastic elbows. They would urinate in them and I could see the urine sitting in the elbow, how disgusting. That was the end of those elbows.
