What does it mean when my piggie squeals? Like she makes this high-pitched noise. She did it today and i gave her some veggies and she stopped. Then like out of nowhere she just squeals. What does it mean? Thank you!

Usually when my piggies squel it is because they hear a bag opening or they are hungry. A lot of pigs squeak for different reasons though.

oh. ok. Thank you!

When they wheek when you pet them (soft wheeks) what does that mean?

maybe its a purr.? Piggies can purr and when they do i think it means that they are comfortable or are happy

Well when they sound like a motor, thats a bad sound. It kind of sounds like a purr.

But I am refering to wheeks.

I think they are comfortable if they give soft wheeks while petting them. My girls sit and chatter to me during petting sessions. Chatty and Moppy purr a lot. Charity and CoCo hardly ever purr, but they talk to me and let me know they are enjoying their petting and snuggling. My girls go nuts wheeking very loud when they hear any kind of plastic or the fridge door open. They will also wheek at me if their pellet dish or water bottle is empty.

oh my piggie wheeks when i pet her. what do the squeals mean?

wheeking and purring are different. Wheeking is done for food or attention and its very loud. Purring is whilst petting and it usually means they are happy

There's another kind of squeak, a very loud one. Pigs who are being chased or threatened by another pig squeak that way, and it means: "HELP DON'T HURT ME DON'T KILL ME LEAVE ME ALONE GO AWAY!!!!!" When a pigs squeaks frantically when you swoop it up, it basically means the same thing.

There's a soft chittering wheek they make when they are happy and go peacefully after their business, i.e. looking for food in the cage.

And they call you loud and clear when they want food, think you have food, think you SHOULD have food, or just because they feel like it so maybe their human slave gets up and marches into the kitchen to, guess what, get food.

And there's the - oh, wait. My pigs are wheeking. Maybe they want some parsley? *hurries off*

If you are around them long enough the soft gentle purring and the "go away motor noise" sound very different. I always thought it was funny that they kinda have separate angry and scared noises. You will know if they are making the "bloody murder" wheeks, I only hear this once or twice a year at the vets and there is no mistaking it.

Several high-pitched, rapid wheeks normally mean excited-ness or anticipation, like when it hears the veggies coming. Purring can often mean "Hey buddy, back off" or "Ooh, that feels nice", and there's a huge difference in them, and the first is often accompanied with butt-shaking(the combo is called rumble-strutting). And there's also one squeal that you do not want to hear, it's loud, high-pitched, and never ending. This is the sound of a pig in serious pain. One of my boys made that noise the night before he died. Never good news.

Very loud and constant wheeks is when they feel threatened. One of mine goes nuts when I try to capture her. Loud wheek and slower is Hey out there come in here and give me something good to munch on. Or hey remember me. When one makes the motor sound, not to often though it means they are annoyed. My piggy was a motor this afternoon after her fungus shampoo, boy did she hate me. The best is the chirping, or nonsense sounds, thats when she loves me. I love that sound during lap time. We have a wonderful conversation then. Then there is the soundless head butt during lap time. Enough with the petting on my head go back to my butt petting.

Well, thats how I interpret my piggies.

I have one crazy pig that goes 'brrrrrrrrrrrrr..WHEEK!..brrrrrrrr...WHEEK!' when she is happy. She popcorns when wheeking so it looks very..strange!

thanks for the help!

No problem, just remember that if you're trying to discern what the pig is 'saying', you have to study the body too. Do you have two or more pigs? If not, I suggest you do. Not only because it's better for the pig's health, but also because it's so much more amusing to watch them 'talk' to each other.

I am not sure, but if you can hear them grind their teeth a little while holding and petting them, that is a good sign?

There are different stories to this noise. Some people claim that it's a sign of aggression, another form of teeth chattering, but I've noticed that my boys simply do it absent-mindedly. They just do it for the same reasons humans do it, to fidget.
