What Does Everyone Mean By One Cup?

What do you all mean when you say measure veggies to one cup per piggy. How do you measure one cup of veggies? Do you take all your veggies and stuff them in an 8 ounce measuring cup and press down with your hand, because we all know that lettuce like greens tend to puff up. Or is one cup equal to 8 ounces and that the veggies should measure 8 ounces? I always had a problem with dry measuring greens. I could take 4 pieces of lettuce and it would fill a cup. I could take 12 pieces of lettuce and squash them down and it would still fill a cup. So would you please tell me how you measure one cup of greens?

when i first got my guinea pigs, I used a glass measuring cup (I think its 250 ml) and I just squished all the food down into it. Now I just make sure that each piggy gets a good handful per day.

Well, I don't actually measure a cup. I think its just common sense on how much you need to feed. Some people measure with an actual cup (mug)

Ok, thanks, I also measure with hand and eye.

I have never measured veggies. I just keep feeding them and it ends up being 3-5times a day or something. I can't really tell you how much veggie they get but they do get 1 bunch of cilantro daily split between 7pigs and 1 bell pepper daily. Then usually some type of lettuce(about half the whole thing of lettuce) and sometimes I slice up a $1 squash into 4 pieces and give 2 per cage. About once a week they get 1 whole apple, orange, or kiwi between them. A few random pieces of parsley, spinach, kale... cause they wheeked at me. A dried sprig of catnip or other herbs. Also any bits I trim off my aquarium plants that I know are edible. I grow pennywort and watercress mostly just for the pigs. Along with that they eat a little less than 2lbs of various grass hays a day and 1 cup pellets a night. Tomorrow we're gonna try blueberries instead of the usual fruits.

What!?! Measure the veggies!?! My human feeds me *exactly* how much I want, when I want it. If she doesn't put enough in, I let her know! I've trained her to put a big pile of veggies in so she doesn't have to run to the fridge 100 times per day. Wheek wheek.

very cute elvis.

I have learned not to hold the greens to close to the cage door when I'm putting it in the bowl. Peanut simply walks over, grabs as much as he can fit in his jaws right out of the bag (or my hands) and runs into the pigloo with it. He's very bold!

One time I got Ruby out while preparing the veggie salad for the next morning... I put her up on the counter(just for a second, I had to put a grid down so she could have floor time) and when I came back, she was all the way across the counter and her face was in the veggie bowl! Needless to say, I let her pig(hence what she is)out for a couple minutes. It was just too cute. And all her favorites were in there! Peppers, red-leaf, cilantro, parsley, pole beans, ect... She was having a blast.
I don't measure, I just throw in what I think is good enough. Like, I use a whole stalk of romaine in one meal, then handfuls and handfuls of parsley and cilantro(I get parsley for free so it's great for me!), cut up peppers and just lay them in there, throw like 10 pieces of celery for every 2 guinea pigs, ect... I'm sure they all get the whole cup per day easily.
