Hello piggy moms and dads!

I'm thinking about making a new diet for my piggies. And I would like to know what you guys feed your piggies everyday.
I know lettuce and bell pepper are a nessecity, but everything else I'm kinda at a loss.
Please share and thanks for commenting!😊

Every day my girls get the exact same veggies meal, twice a day.

One serving consists of:

- Red or green leaf lettuce
- a baby carrot (or small slice of a regular carrot)
- slice of cucumber
- baby tomatoes or a small chunk of tomato
- green pepper (I have 6 pigs and they eat one medium to large sized pepper a day, split evenly between them)

Sometimes I'll give them a few slices of a different colour pepper, but green is their favourite.

I'll also add radicchio, but only when it's on sale as it is normally quite expensive!

But each pig gets that combination of vegetables twice a day, it's low calcium and they have been having it for years. They don't care in the slightest that it never changes, they are never bored with veggie time.

The odd time they will get a chunk of apple (maybe once a month) and in the summer they will get some watermelon rind, but other than that their diet stays the same!

I have the two piggies and a trio of rabbits, so my shopping trolley always looks like I am a green juice enthusiast. The amount of times a checkout staff has asked how I eat kale...Everyone knows kale is pet food only! You know someone has rabbits or guinea pigs if they're buying kale.

My lot eat similarly to the Sallyvh. I always buy bulk of salad mixes, spinach, kale and celery. I add in capsicum (any colour red, green or yellow), cucumber, occasionally carrot or tomato, broccoli, etc. Though it's the green leafy stuff that makes up the bulk of what they're getting. They get a little bit in the morning and a big feast in the evenings.

They are mad for hay. We go through a lot of oaten hay though I try to mix it up and offer other grass hays just so that no one gets fussy. Most of the wheeking is in demand of hay. Not veg. Not pellets. Hay. For the Australians out there, Pet Stock has some awesome stuff at the moment.

I don't feed pellets often. I feed Winifred oxbow young guinea pig pellets on the vets direction. Occasionally I'll feed some of the mix from the rescue I support here in Sydney but it is a treat and only served in small quantities.

Question about the lettuce--

Why is it recommended as a staple? Our local grocery stores have raised prices for the lettuce. $3.50 for a teeny tiny bunch. And that's just for the conventional lettuce. Both the organic and the regular are $3.50. Supposedly, based on what one of the employees said, the "Lettuce States" haven't been getting that much rain. Companies don't wanna lose money so they're raising the prices. He said that the same thing will happen with other veggies (please not bell pepper) in about a week or so. Never said how long this will last.

The boys are still getting a good diet, if I do say so myself.
-1/4-1/2 bell pepper
-Baby Carrot/Tomato/Cucumber
-Lots and Lots of Grass

Other than the water content, I'm not sure what other things lettuce is good for. Hopefully, cutting it out for now is not that big of a deal...?

I work second shift so I don't usually get home until around 11 pm. I have one young boar. I normally make him 1 cup of salad at night when I get home from work and split it into 2 smaller 1/2 cup salads. He will get one right away and then the other salad he will get for lunch just before I leave for work. His salad usually consists of 4 red or green lettuce leaves, 1 large leaf of endive, 3 dandelion leaves, 2 cherry tomatoes (cut up), 2 baby carrots (cut up) and 1/4 of a green pepper. He will normally get a few blueberries added to his lunch salad twice a week and a few strips of apple about twice a month.

I've been adding a new veggie from the list at guinea lynx to his salad every week so I can determine which veggies he likes and which he isn't as fond of. So far I've discovered that his favorites are any type of bell pepper, he doesn't seem to care what color it is and dandelion leaves.

Mine are fed in the evening before I go to bed. I will slip them treats throughout the day sometimes depending on what i'm eating. For example, If i'm having some strawberries then they might get a strawberry top, my mom will give them cucumber skin etc. In the spring, summer and fall they get a large amount of fresh grass with raspberry leaves, dandelion leaves (a small one from the garden), a leaf of basil and occasionally a piece of peppermint mixed in every day.

Their staple diet is green or red leaf lettuce, a baby carrot and green pepper everyday. Some days that's all they get, other days they get lots of other things too. In the summer I mainly go with what's in the garden as we plant lots of veggies every year. I will throw in swiss chard, cucumber, raspberries, blueberries, melons, kale, spinach, snap peas, corn husk, corn on the cob, apple etc. My pigs also like squash, but absolutely refuse to eat zucchini no matter how hard I try. At this point my six year old is set in her ways haha.
