My piggie constantly has a wet chin anymore. It smells and it looks yellow. His teeth were just trimmed the other day and the vet said it was drool. Does anyone know what else it could be and how would I prevent it?

Why were his teeth trimmed? Are you feeding hay? Poor guy, I would try a different vet. I've never heard of it. You may want to go to guinealynx online and do some research.

He may still have teeth issues, or an abscess. The smell isn't a good sign. Can you take him back to a competent vet? Is he on any meds?

I work for a vet and he saw the one that is an exotic pet specialist. They are one of the best vet clinics around. I e-mailed a vet dentist earlier tonight and am waiting for a reply. The smell is concerning and the drool is yellow so I know it is a problem. It was much worse before he took the antiobiotics but it is not totally gone. Before he was also not eating and was losing weight, but now he is eating again and his normal amount. His stools are also soft but not diarrhea.

When you say his teeth were trimmed, do you mean the incisors? So many vets seem to think the mouth ends at the incisors when the problem is almost always at the molars. The back teeth MUST be checked. The smell suggests infection so I would get a second opinion asap.

I agree Daft. Perhaps the infection too is still remaining despite meds and additional antibiotics may be needed.

She did check the molars and said they were fine. But yes, it was just the incisors that were trimmed.

I don't think I've seen many cases where it's not been the molars that caused a problem with the incisors in the first place. Absolutely get a second opinion - perhaps there's some kind of abscess in there.

How did she check the back molars? I know with chinchillas, an xray is necessary as you cannot see them and the roots therwise.

The vet checked his teeth using the device used to check cat's and dog's ears. Also he has a head tilt because he only has one functional eye, and his incissors where trimmed because they werent growing evenly.

I would go with Biscuit and be tempted to get an x-ray and proper dental exam. As I said above, incisors don't tend to grow squint unless there's something else going on.
