Miss Piggy still hasen't had her babies yet, so what I plan on doing is if she hasen't had them by payday, I am going to take her to the vet for a regular check up and just to get a better idea as to when she will be having the wee ones... I'm taking her to the University Vet Clinic because I know they have some exotics vets and they are actually the cheapest in the city too... $43...

Waiting is the hardest part. I have not had a pregnant sow nor do I plan on breeding but I may at some point take in a pregnant rescue piggie. (Well, I can't say that truly because there is a chance that moppy may be pregnant, she seems to be getting a little wide in the back end. She was one of the pet store piggies and she is on pregnancy watch)

They are pregnant up to 73 days I believe.

Yeah and seeing as I bought her from a petshop, they don't know exactly at what point she got pregnant, so it's all back to guess work. But I thought that once you could hear the babies teeth chattering the birth would be soon? Cause I have been hearing their little teeth chatter for almost two weeks now! It's really loud now and shes getting so big that they dont have as much room to move around in anymore... Is it true that a sows first litter can have a longer gestation period?

Well, if you flip her over (carefully! This could easily stress out mum), put your finger right above her area. The pelvic bones will come apart, and when you can fit two or more fingers in there that means she is due soon. Also when she becomes very restless is a sign. Normally, in the pelvic area, you can't even fit one finger. Hope all goes well.

Restless and really uncomfortable too. Hopefully she has them before payday.Maybe she will deliver on the way to the vet in your car. Good luck and hope she goes soon. Let us know and how many.

Well see thats the thing... shes had times where she just can't sit still and runs all around her cage and just gives the impression shes uncomfortable... as for the pelvic thing, ive tried to do that to her but she doesnt like to be flipped over very much

Once you start feeling and hearing the babies, it's 2-3 weeks. Don't worry, she will have them. I wouldn't stress her out by taking her to vet especially this close to birth, you don't want her giving birth in the car. Unless she is showing signs of complications, don't worry.

Easier said then done ;) But thank you all for your thoughts...

I believe it is the larger the litter the shorter the pregnancy and the smaller the litter the longer the pregnancy.

Trust me, don't worry. I have been through many cavy pregnancies. You don't want to stress her out when she's this far through, unless it's absolutely neccessary, which it's not. She will have them when they are ready. You do not need to even pick her up to check her pelvic. Just slide your fingers underneath from the back. You can also check from the back. Slide your finger down her spine to where her tail should be, there should be an opening about 1 1/2 - 2 fingers wide.

Since she is acting uncomfortable and can't stay still, she is close and could have them any minute.

Well I would just give her peace and quiet. keep checking on her and keep her company. Talk to her so she knows that you care about her and love her. It will also help her warm up to you when she has her pups
