Hi, everyone.

My guinea pig, Mocha, has begun to lose weight gradually since about 3 months ago.

I do not notice any abnormal change in his eating behavior or daily activities. He was about 7 months ago when I adopted him from the local animal shelter and it has been 2 and a half years since I got him. So I don't really believe the weight loss is due to old age.

Can someone please help?

Thank you very much in advance.

I think you should bring your GP to vet.

Definitely one for the vet - weight loss is a serious indicator something is wrong so I'd get him seen as soon as possible.

If you have any health related questions please post them over at Guinea Lynx https://www.guinealynx.info/forums/ - these forums are for cage related information and advice.

One word: Vet!

Slow weight loss is indicative of teeth problems, especially if your pig is showing interest in food and cannot eat. Most common tooth problem is malocclusion. The following link has a lot of information on teeth problems.

Most importantly, see a vet immediately, and if necessary, get a referral to a veterinary dentist (cavy-savvy) if possible.
