hey everybody, whats up? as you know, i am trying to convince my parents to let me get guinea pigs. My mom is about 28% convinced, and my dad is about 52% convinced. Hopefully, if i convince my dad ,he can help convince my mom. lol! :) but do you guys have any ideas to help them say YES!? i am trying 3 things so far:
1. doing extra chores and telling and talking about guinea pigs endlessly,
2. writhing and then typing up a 3 or 4 page (i can't remember how long, but at least 4 pages!) paper about guinea piggies, and
3. i am in the middle of making a power point, probaly about 30 slides, only at the moment its about 3, 4, or 5.
can you tell i really want them? please, if you have any ideas for me, post them here!

That's a tough one. It's easier to convince them to let you get another one if you only have one which is what I'm doing but as for getting started I'd say that you are on the right track. Maybe getting them to see some would help convince them more since they are so adorable when you see them up close and personal.

I think you should talk to them maturly no "BUT I WANNNTT PIGGIIEESS"'s. If all else fails you could try the puppy dog eyes...

yeah, well, i've tried that, and my mom just complains that they are rodents, and my dad just says to talk to my mom. grrr, its annoying and hard. i don't have any yet though, but i am going to keep trying, and I WILL SUCCEED! lol!

Get them to take you to the petstore(ugh) and just point out how cool they are. Then talk to the manager to tell them about the bad conditions showing your parents what you know and that you care.

and dagwellis, the puppy eyes might work. along with begging and bowing on my hands and knees. lol! desprate times call for desperate measures!!!

Show your parents this website and how much information is available for you so you can take really good care of your piggies. If they see how much you have educated yourself and how much info there is if you run into any problems that should certainly work in your favor. Make sure you and your parents are aware of the expense of caring for guinea pigs. That is something that needs to be taken into consideration by both you and your parents. Good luck. Piggies are wonderful, loving and fun pets.

When I wanted a kitten..I bawled...and it worked..my stepdad is a sucker for tears. And my kitty lived to be 15yrs old. That is the only time I used the cry technique though. I didnt want to press my luck :)

tell them or i can get a rat!

You can suggest to your parents that you foster a guinea pig first, to show them how well you would look after a pet, without them having to make a long-term commitment.

Tell them that although guinea pigs are in the rodentia (rodent) family, that they are not like rats/hamsters/gerbils/mice. They have different habits. Right now there is debate going on whether cavies are actually part of the rodent class.

I would find as much "good" information as I can about them and do what your doing as far as making a presentation to your parents. My son doesn't care for the piggies (he is 14). He is a hamster person through and through. But when he asked for a hamster, I asked him if he was willing to take care of it and treat it right and he answered he would. He now has his own hamster, but I am having to remind him frequently if he has given her fresh food, water, cleaned her cage, etc. Maybe your parents are concerned that you might get bored of the piggies and not take care of them.

See if you can get them to read things on the internet about the piggies. That may help. Also you need to make sure that your parents are ok not only with you getting a pair of same sex pigs but that you have room for the large cage as well.

I wouldn't do that, only because my mom gets mad at me... I mean really mad at me... If I talk about my guinea pigs for a while.... hehe.

hmmm. This is a tough question. When I wanted to get a dog, my dad was totally against it. Then I told him I would clean our cat's litter box every day for a year, and he said ok! He didn't think I would actually do it, but I did, so now we have a dog! but I wouldn't suggest just begging. Try to convince them about why guinea pigs are good pets instead of just telling them you want one. If you convince them that you will pay for them, feed them, and clean up after them and stuff, then they might say yes

i've done the same as you + made a list of supplies that the pigs will need & usual cost of the supplies that will be needed (monthly i think). this way y'all know what costs are going to be like. I'm supposed to be looking for a job so i will be able to help pay for the piggers i'm (hopefully) getting soon.
Good Luck!
