I have had Zoey (black and white short hair) for 10 months now, she was a rescue from a teenage boy that abused her if anyone can remember. She came to me deaf and 90% blind, if she can even see the 10% that I am giving her. She was in real ruff shape when I first got her, living in a broken cage which I am most certain was the cause of her missing toe. Zoey was fed hamster food with seeds and corn and was 5 years old. She is now six and is still as spunky as ever, she is the first to wheek in the morning and everytime someone walks by the cage. Out of 4 girls she is the only one who will come to your hand for a scratch on the head and ears.
Being a blind girl she was the only cavy to remain on the first level of my three level C&C cage. I always knew that her sight was really bad so I never expected her to do any ramps to reach other levels. After about a month or so I got the shock of seeing her on the second floor! I asked the kids if they put her there and they all denied it, so I picked her up and put her back on the lower level. This continued for months and each time she would not go back down the ramp, so I then placed her on the third level thinking it would be better for her. The middle floor to my cage ( just a 1X2 ) doesn't have food or water so I would hate to see her stuck there.
Just recently I added a fourth small level, it is just a closet shelf half way up the grids to provide hidey spots underneath and above. So of coarse Zoey has now been climbing up that ramp. I have been rescuing her everytime I turn around, I was starting to think of taking it down when just today I have thought twice of bringing her down ( I always let her stay there for awhile because I know she likes it up there ) to find out she already has!
Finaly after 10 months she is comfortable enough to bring herself both up and down a ramp!! The ramp is a small one that isn't very steep mind you, but I can't help being so happy for my little girl.
I just had to share Zoey's story with you all!
