I was just wondering, since my baby has the start of a URI I don't want her to feel like she is cold at all. I have my current house temperature at 73. I have read online about what the temperature of the room should be and there are like a million different answers. Would like to know what other people put their temperature on?

Just make it comfortable, if you are comfy or at least not really cold she is fine too. Just don't have her by any drafts and you can always make/buy a cozy for her to snuggle up in.

Thank you, I was looking online and found some snuggle beds which looks like it would be perfect for her, I'm going out to buy one tomorrow. Just had to be on the safe side!

Guinea pigs do much better in cooler temperatures than they do when it's hot. They're descended from animals that lived in the high Andes, and they're geared for cool weather. They can't tolerate heat much above 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you're comfortable in your house, they will be, too. We keep our thermostat set at 66 most of the time in the winter, and the pigs have no problems with that at all.

What you should do is keep them out of drafts. If you've got air leakages around your windows, for example, you can drape a blanket over part of the cage to keep the air from blowing on them.

Thank you so much, my husband has been sweating like crazy he gets hot very easily so we usually set it to 68-70 but lately 73 or 74. Do you think with the start of a URI that we should keep it as is for now? I really appreciate both your help, I have been stressing so bad.

Just set the thermostat wherever you would set it for yourselves. Unless we're talking about skinny pigs here, the pigs will be fine. And you can always put a cardboard box in the cage for a hidey that will help trap some heat -- just cut the bottom out and some holes in the ends. They can get in it if they need to.

I don't think the temperature will affect the URI at all unless the pig gets thoroughly chilled. And if you keep it out of drafts, it won't do that. GPs are just balls of fat and fur anyway -- they probably appreciate the cooler temperatures.

Okay thank you I greatly appreciate your help, how long have you had your guinea pigs for?

I've had these two about two and a half years.
