Heres a weekend project for you, and your piggies will love it.

What it is: heat Pads for the Cavy Cage

What You Need:
  • 2 cups uncooked Jasmine Rice (any rice will work, but this kind stays warm longest)
  • 2 squares of quilting fabric, each 12" by 12"
  • Needle and thread
Directions for Making:
  1. Put the two pieces of fabric together with their "right" sides facing each other.
  2. So all four sides except for about an 3 inches on one side
  3. Orient the fabric so now the "right" sides are on the outside
  4. Fill it up with jasmine rice
  5. Sew up the last side
Directions For Using:
  1. Put in microwave for 1-2 minutes
  2. Let it cool for about a minute after removing
  3. Place in Piggies cage!
It will stay warm throughout the night, and it will keep them nice and cozy in winter weather. If you want, you can make smaller size to throw in their cozies/sleeping bags.

Thanks for the directions loves2travel! I am going to make a ton this weekend!

ok! have fun with them!

Wow, thanks!

your welcome. if anyone is still confused about instructions or something, feel free to PM me. I would be glad to answer any questions and be of any help in any way.

sweet i love the idea cuz our gas bills are raising and we cant afford to turn the heat up high and this will help alot. thanx

also i have a question about this. My piggies like to pee on their binkies. I was wondering if i made this could i wash them or is there a way where i can wash them and it wont ruin the rice. thanx

no.........thats a downside, it cant be washed. however, you could make a little cover out of a towel sort of material and put this cover on after you heat the pillow up.

Thanks for the idea loves2travel, I am going to make a couple. But I am going to make slip on fleece covers over them so I can wash them (the covers)! Because my piggs will probably pee on them, so better safe than sorry lol.

lol. yea. better safe than sorry!

I went out to thr fabric store yesterday to buy some material, velcro and batting so I can make warmers and binkys. Also Im gonna make slip covers for the warmers. When Im done heating up just the warmer, Im gonna put a sandwich baggie over it and then a slip cover over that. That way when they pee it will only go on the slip cover and it wont go through the plastic and its protected.

good idea, angel!

That's what I was thinking! Well, it looks as though some people just think faster than I can, lol. If you keep the rice in a bag as suggested, then you will be able to safely was the fabric as well.

you can also use corn, just make sure its not popcorn lol

corn works? really? does it have to be the frozen kind that comes in bags in the frezzer section at stores?

I think she is talking about corn cernals. Uncooked corn.

The warmers are great and the piggers just love em.

really? oh good! my girls love them too. I have a big one underneath their raised futon, and they just LOVE lying on top of it, sprawled out, head cocked to the side.

What a great idea. I love that you can make these. I did a search on the internet and found this (broken link removed) just another idea.
Thanks so much loves2travel.
