vitamin c

We use the good pellet feed and timothy hay. Our guinea pig doesn't like the vitamin c drops. What else can we do to ensure he is getting enough? I was told tang inthe water? If so how much? Any other suggestions? Thanks

Re: vitamin c

Well i use multi vit drops in my piggies' food, u use about 1 to 2 teaspoons of the drops in the food everyday!!! I would also advice 2 force a mixture of vit c tablet crunched up in water, in a seringe that you can buy in pet shops or ur vets. then slowly push the seringe after the piggie has suppt about a full seringe of the substance wipe the pigs mouth and make sure that it is dry if u are going to put her outside.

TOP TIP!!!!
try and wrap the piggie on ur lap.
try and get the end of the seringe at the side of the mouth.
make sure that you get the end of the seringe at the side of the pigs mouth. :D

Let me know how it goes on!!!

Re: vitamin c

I have heard that they do not need vitamin c supplement, as long as you give them lots of hay, and fresh vegies, but i'm not sure. anyone know if i'm right?

Vitamin C

Yes pig needs vitamin c regarless of the hay and pellets they get. The avergage pig needs 10-30mg of vitamin each day. To get this amount they would have to eat 2 1/2 medium apples. No way 1 pig could eat that much in one day. So the best ways are to get the GTN-50C tablets from OX-BOW hat (in the usa) there website is oxbowhay.com. Some vets carry them too. There is a distributors list on the oxbow hay site. The multi vitamin drops are not the best as these are multi vitamin and will give them to much of the others. (so says my vet). Tang has to much sugar in it, so try not to use this method. You can also crush a 250mg into 1 cup of water, and put it into their water bottle. Change it daily. When purchasing the tablets get the orange flavored chewables. Also get one that does not have any fillers. My local grocery store carries their generic brand that does not have any fillers and is less expensive than the brand names. I like them too

So yes piggies always need the vitamin C

Re: vitamin c

Something our pigs love is broccoli cole slaw, and it has lots of vitamin C. It's by Mann's, out of Salinas, CA. They have a nice web site at www.broccoli.com. Their slaw is shredded slivers of hearts of broccoli (80%), and carrots and red cabbage (10% each). We get it in those "stay fresh bags" at the local supermarkets. We give the pigs a big handful every day, and they enjoy munching it down.

Treats!!! (Wheek Wheek Wheek!)

I stumbled upon a New England company that sells hay and pellets and treats. There are Vitamin C treats. Thought you might like to know. I'm going to spoil my new guinea I'm getting for Christmas and buy them all!
