Are there any piggy carers out there who have used both of these?

How do they compare?

Do the pigs prefer one to the other - I can see that the Vet Bed is pretty thick, do the pigs like its squishyness underfoot? Or might they prefer a thinner layer underfoot, on top of something more firm..?

And how do the two compare performance wise... does the commercial fleece manage the same job as the Vet Bed..?

I have been using vetbed for the past 6 months and love it. I use it for the top two levels. I use carefresh for the bottom level. It's so thick that I don't have to wash it for 2 weeks. I have 2 piggies and the vetbed stays dry. It also stays in place in the cage so the piggies don't burrow under it. It washes in the washer great. You can cut it to any length you want with a good pair of scissors.

Piggies get used to most anything. Since my older piggy and my past piggy who recently passed away were first introduced to shavings on a one level cage, they did all their urination there. When I introduced vet bed and built 2 more levels they loved the vetbed and would continute to do their urination on the shavings on the first level which was great. I literally didn't have to wash the vetbed for weeks.

Now that I have adopted a baby piggy who is in love with my other piggy (female), (just praying everyone is right and it's a girl) was introduced to her new cage was absolutely ecstatic. She was running laps on her 2nd day. She does her business all over the vetbed, "yuck" but after checking with my hand it's still dry and it's now 2 weeks. I will wash it this weekend.

Maybe now that I have extra vetbed I will try it out on the first floor also. Don't know how my older piggy will like that.

I use both currently. Vetbed on 2 levels and fleece on the other 2.

They love the Vetbed more than the fleece. As soon as I fitted the Vetbed into the cage all the pigs went absolutely crazy. They popcorned like I had never seen them popcorn before. It is easier to clean Vetbed as well, I find. You can hoover the poops up without the Vetbed being sucked into the vacuum cleaner hose, and then you can beat the VB with a brush really easily to get any other 'foreign objects' off before putting it in the washing machine. The main downside in my experience is the cost.

Fleece is usually cheap to buy and needs the same care as Vetbed (only it does tend to get sucked up the vacuum cleaner hose if it's not held down in some way).

Trial both materials if you're still unsure. If Vetbed doesn't work out, then you've got a great cozy 'toy' for them to play in. Mine are suckers for delving in folded Vetbed. If the fleece doesn't work out, then there is loads you can do with it - make new small cosy toys, create a blanket mountain, make a tent etc.
