One of my piggies that was given to me gave birth a few days ago to 7 pups. 1 was dead right away, the rest were fine except for the runt. I have been supplementing her food and pretty much being her surrogate mommy because all the other babies are trampling her and the mother doesn't seem to want her near her. She cannot fight for her food, they are bigger and stronger than her. I have named her Sko-shee, and she is brindle with white down the face. She refuses all food now, and I had to force some into her but it is not working. Right now, as I type this, she is dying and I can't fix her. All I can do is hold her and talk to her, and let her know that I love her. She is on her side and kicking and arching her back. I'm petting her and talking to her, and I will hold her until she passes. I don't want her to be alone. Poor sweet little Sko-shee.

She is gone, but she was not alone even for a second. When she was born, I had to rub her fur to get her moving and dry her off. I wasn't going to let her die, but I tried my best and at least she knew she was loved. She was cherished for those few days of her life. I took pictures of her, so I will at least be able to see her sweet face. I know that all the oher piggies that have passed over, will keep her safe, play with her, and give her love. she won't be alone.

I'm so sorry for your loss. How is the others & mom doing?

i'm so very sorry
crying

Sorry to hear about your loss. 7 babies in considered a large litter for a cavy, and by having that many generally the babies are a smaller size and sometimes arrive slightly premmy (as with human multiple pregnancies).

How heavy was your little "runty" baby? It may have just been too small and underdeveloped to live.

Just know that you have tried your best to save the little one, obviously wasnt meant to be.

I'm sorry to hear that.

I am really sorry for your loss, I know it is hard.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I am sorry for your lost. I know what it is like Miss. I had Holly for 3 weeks and she was the runt of the litter and her 2 sisters would trample over her too. Her mum would not feed her either. She died in my arms as well. I never cried so hard with a lost of an animal in such short life. At least she was loved my her human mummie.

So very very sorry.
*tears*

Please post pictures of her.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, would love to see the pics you will remember her by. Happy thoughts and cavy kisses for the remaining 5 babies.

Sorry for your loss.... You did all you can do, his last hours were filled with love and that is all that matters.

Hello, thank you everyone for you very kind words. Mommy and babies are doing fine, there are 4 boys and 1 girl. They are pretty small too, but eating just fine otherwise. It is very sad that she is gone, and I miss her little sweet face. I will post her pictures just as soon as I find my cable to download with. We are going to have a burial with a little goodbye service today. She was only here for a little while, but sure made an impact. Thanks again everyone.

Awww, I'm definatly crying, that is the sadest thing I have ever heard. I had my first Guinea Pig die in my hands too, but she lived a full 2 years before she passed. Sorry for your loss. :'(

Sorry for your loss

I have put Sko-shee's picture in the photo gallery under "toys". She is shown with her little basket that she played with. (supervised) She was put in a really nice spot under a big tree in my yard, she would have loved to play there on a sunny day. I really miss that little sweetie.

Sorry for your tragic loss.

Wow. that's a really big litter.

I'm sorry for the loss of the littlest one. I've lost runts in puppy litters and it's so hard. They are so little and helpless and you want to help so bad. At least she had a loving soul around her as she passed.

I share your pain because over the weekend my little Marnie who was 7 1/2 days old passed away too.

Oh Ly did yo loose another one. OMG. I am soooooooo sorry for your lost. She is the cute one. I am in tears seeing this now.
