I saw in another forum that someone was using a vaccum for spot cleaning of poo. This sounds a lot easier, is there anything wrong with the practice?

In my oppinion, hand vaccumes are ok, but other large vaccumes are not...unless you have one of those hypoallergenic vacuumes that don't throw out any dust. I think the dust is bad for them. I know it is for birds, so I figure since their respitory systems are sensitive also, it might be the same. I use my shop vac to clean out my C&C cage, but my pigs are outside in their play pen while I do this.

the noise is also a big factor. a vaccum is much too loud for a guinea pigs sensitive ears. you can do it when they have floor time and arent in their cage. i just use a dust pan and hand broom.

Yes, a hand vacuum is a good idea, and they are not that loud.

ok, i made a schedule and it allows for spot cleaning twice a day. once in the afternoon and once late at night right before bed. is this enough? i use fleece bedding.

Thats sort of what I did when I used towels. I would sweep everything up in the morning before school, and then in the evening.

yea, im going to try and do that, AND change the lining every day. so well see how it works out.......

I'm a lazy person, but I am good at spot cleaning! Now, everyday I pick up the poops left in the bedding

lol. piglet, do you use bedding or fleece?

If you use bedding, that won't work--it'll suck up the bedding as well!

For fleece, though, it might be a possibility, IF you just use a small attachment (such as the corner one for cobwebs, the one with a small opening). You definitely don't want to scare the pigs or grab one of them by accident!

Well, I used to use towels, but I got sick of them. They stayed quite damp so I just gave up. Now, I have a brick patio instead of the towel area. 2x3 of the cage is bedding. Sounds so confusing, you'll see what I mean when I take pictures tomorrow
