I am using inexpensive fleece throws I bought at Walgreens. Should I use more than one layer since they are so thin? I think I can feel the wetness through the fleece and it's only been a day. Or should I get some thicker fleece material? And how many layers of towels should I use? I got some cheap ones at Walmart and they are thin too. Maybe I should get some more absorbent ones? I'd like to get this formula figured out so that I can take them with me to see my family and I don't stink up their house. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I bought a queen sized matress pad from Walmart ($12). I cut off the elastic edges, fold in half, and it works great for me 2x4 cage. Then I add one layer of fleece (pre-washed) on top. I like to sew the layers together. I find this works great.

How many times did you wash the fleece before using it? It could actually be that you havn't washed the fleece enough so the pee dosent go all the way through to the under absorbent layer. If the pee IS going through then yeh, try using 2 layers of fleece. I think the more layers of fleece you can use the better because then it keep the smell of the pee from under down!
Hope you get it sorted soon!

I read that you are only to use one layer of fleece, so that it wicks properly. You can add more layers of towels, as many as you need. The fleece blanket being thin is ok, that is what I use. I use 2-3 layers of towels, and I don't notice any smell for about a week and 1/2.

Good luck!

I like to sew the layers together. I find this works great.

I use fleece with towels to line my pig cage. It's a pain to lay out the towels then fit the fleece over them.

I always end up getting pellets and hay on both side of everything so I have to drag out 3 or 4 towels and the fleece and shake them out outside before I can wash them. I was thinking about maybe sewing the towels and fleece together, kind of like a quilt. That way I just have the one piece to lay out in the cage and to shake afterwards. Any opinions or suggestions?

I like that idea. That way the little rascals can't get under the fleece and get tangled up or hurt! My little boy is always under the fleece, so of course the poop is under there too!

I think when I get my new cage done I will fit and sew the towels and fleece together! Thank you for the idea!

How many layers of towels underneath the fleece is ideal? Can I use old cotton tee shirts instead of towels?

I use one or two layers of towels, depending on how thin they are. I got several cheap towels at flea markets. I don't think that shirts would be as aborbant.

I just adopted two girl piggies and they are using fleece. I just started using fleece not long ago. The girls are so naughty, they keep going underneath the fleece!! Even if I used the pee pans and huge tunnels and clips to secure the fleece, they still managed to get underneath it. So angry >( every time I have to force them out.Going crazy always having to arrange the things all over again in the cage just to bring them out of it. I am afraid they will suffocate in there.

What is the best solution to this? Sew the fleece to the towels?
