Today I noticed that there was white stuff on Peanut's fleece where she pees. It was kind of chalky looking, I had noticed it a couple of days ago, but I thought it was something else. Since I have now seen it a couple times..what could it be? Should I take her to the vet?

It is just expelled calcium. See my thread titled "Yuck, what is this" I have a picture of the white liquid on there and people commented on it.

I think it is different from what your pig had..I'll have to take some pictures soon.

What I took pictures of was fresh, the chalky stuff is dried urine. I have seen it dried on my pig's fleece too.

You need to feel the chalky patch and see if it feels gritty or smooth. It is urine that has dried.

Alright thanks...I just hate worrying because she was sick a couple of weeks ago. She is now better, but I thought something else might be wrong. Now I'm glad she is fine.

Just today I noticed that Peanut is crying while going to the bathroom. What could it be?

Thats sound serious. Taken from GL:

Blood in the pee
Squeaking while peeing, a serious and painful condition. A vet should check your pet for a possible urinary tract infection (UTI) or problem with the bladder or kidneys. A sour smell could indicate a cyst, bladder or urinary tract infection, or stones.

Take her in to the vet, she probably has a urinary tract infection.

I have another question on this topic... I just adopted a baby boy and I've noticed that there are dark brown stains on the white carefresh that I use for bedding... is this urine???? It's about the color of soy sauce. If it is his urine, is the color an indication of a problem? He hasn't been drinking as much water as he should be, probably because he's adjusting to a new home.

I have a white blanket in my piggies cage. And I too see brownish soy sauce type looking stains. it looks like a dried puddle to me. anyway, this is normal just urine. unless it is really dark and possibly has blood in it. can you take a picture?

I don't have my digital camera at the moment. I don't see any blood in it and he doesn't seem to be in any pain... so hopefully it's normal.

The brown is where oxygen hits the urine as it dries and turns it to a brownish color. Nothing to worry about.

Whew, I was worried! Thanks everyone. He seems to be drinking a lot more water now and is adjusting just fine.

that's good news then :) I also have the same spots (the brownish ones) in my cage too
