Urget Help Needed!!!

My new guinea pig (currently no-name) I think has something wrong with him. I've had him since 3 p.m. yesterday and the whole time has been pooping uncontrollably! He gets the poo stuck all in his fur and it's really mushy. The lady I adopted him from said that she noticed it but she said it was because he ate to much fruit. But it's just so much! It's mushy and smells horrible! I don't know what to do because all the vets are closed. I don't know if I should just give him back, but it would be very hard to do because already love him so much. Please help!

its very well might be that he had been fed too much fruit, or too much watery veggies like ice burg lettuce which can cause diareah, but i'd give it a day or two to clear up..what are you currently feeding him?

Alot of timothy hay, pellets, and a little romain lettuce leaf.

Keep a close eye on him. If he continues to poop like this uncontrollably I would call the vet the first thing in the morning. I just looked over at gl to see if there was a page on mushy poo or diarrhea but I didn't see anything. Is the lady sure that was what was causing this. If she had stopped feeding him fruit then it should have cleared up by now.

As for tonight maybe you can wipe the mushy poos off his fur with damp paper towels so it doesn't get stuck all in his fur.

If he has diarhrea, he needs to see a vet asap. It's very dangerous. He can get dehydrated. He may have a parasite too. You should do a fecal culture if it continues.

Definitely try to get him to a vet. There are no emergency vets in your area? Our local animal hospital is open 24/7 with an emergency room. I would watch him carefully to make sure he doesn't go down hill. Is he still peeing, eating, and drinking? Is he lethargic?

I really don't think it's diarrea but he does poo an awful lot. I'm not sure if we have any 24/7 hospitals but if we did it wouldn't make that much of a difference as my mother does not drive and it is extremly hard getting a taxi on a weekend this late.

I honestly think he will be ok until the morning...check on him first thing when you wake up, if it is still there, then call your vet and ask what you should do. How wet is it? very wet, or just mushy? if it is really wet, there might be something wrong..otherwise, i would bet it will clear up..good luck!

It's mushy and get matted in his fur very easily as he's a texel a long haired piggie. I think he does it most when I'm trying to clean it off him cuz when he's just running around it's not that bad.

I think if its just mushy, and he has long hair, then i would worry too badly unless it continues to happen.phoning a vet and getting some help would be a good idea if he is still doing it as bad tomorrow, but if it seems better, just keep a close eye on him. =) and don't feed him quaker oats, or anything like that, just dry pellets, hay and keep his water bottle or dish in his cage. keep us posted

I was wondering that too. You need to take him to a vet, even if he's fine you dont want anything bad to happen
